Last year's finale of FOX's Bones left us hanging. Is Zack really going to war and will he come back? Will Jack and Angela ever get married? Will Max Keenan really go to and stay in jail? Will we learn more about Brennan's family (more precisely on her mother's side of the family)? Will both standing at the altar together help or hurt the relation between Brennan and Booth?Want to know some of the answers to these questions and a bit more about Bones' third season? We have the goods after the jump! Spoilers warning!
- There will be a time jump between last season's finale and the upcoming premiere.
- Since Zack is in Iraq, the team will look for a temporary replacement. The person they hire will not be on the job too long as Zack will be back in the season premiere.
- Jack will help Angela find whom she married in Fiji. They will hire a private investigator and even try hypnotherapy.
- Max Keenan will stay in prison and we are set to see his trial. Brennan will visit him but things are still strained between father and daughter.
- Not only we will meet more of Booth's coworkers but the series will introduce his grandfather, father, and brother.
- At the start of the season, Brennan will try to find ways to avoid working with Booth. Things will settle down soon enough but they are still not 100% comfortable with one another. However, they will become better friends this season and will have to evaluate what they mean to one another.
- Cam is still a major player. The character Caroline Julian will be recurring this season.
- There are plans to have the team revisit the Gravedigger's case. A new serial killer will be introduced. He wants to recreated a skeleton using one bone per victim, meaning he needs to kill 206 persons!

I think it's safe to say with the way Fox is running things that this will be the third and final season.

David: It could be the final season, who knows? But it looks like FOX believes in the show as they ordered 28 episodes for Season 3 instead of the usual 22. It's one of the few dramas they have that they can easily rerun (like HOUSE).

They order a lot of things and then cut them to hell. Placing the show on Fridays is never a good thing.

Are there any season finales that don't leave us hanging?
Thanks for the information! This is one of my favorite shows on right now.

David: Indeed, they can go back on their words. I remember reading an article not too long ago where the creator of "Bones" said that even if FOX does not cut the episode order, he is not 100% they'll be able to make those 28 episodes due to time constraints and the potential writers' strike.
Btw, "Bones" reruns on Fridays this summer but will air Tuesdays comes end of September (before "House"). It was set to go back in its Wednesdays at 9 p.m. time slot but FOX made a few changes to its schedule yesterday and "Bones" is now on Tuesdays.

Mel: Most season finales do leave us hanging, but I've seen a few that haven't left me hanging. For example, the "NCIS" finale this year didn't have any huge cliffhangers that had me wondering if one of the cast wouldn't be back. Same with the "Desperate Housewives" finale, it didn't knock my socks off.

I don't see a need to move it, it's just what Fox has said.
The can have AI on for 4-6 weeks and just continue Bones episodes afterwrads.

I'm always worried when a show I like ends up on FOX. This network has a horrible, horrible history of managing their best (and by best I don't necessarily mean "most popular") shows. The time-slot shuffle and airing episodes out of order are only two examples, but probably the most recurring. The scatterwits at the top of the food chain just don't seem to have any idea how to run a network. Personally, I look forward to the day that series creators will avoid TV and release directly to DVD -- except I suppose when that happens, I'll end up with several hours' worth of commercials on my DVDs.
