I told you back in May that William H. Macy had written and would star in a new series for TNT called Family Man. TNT has just given the greenlight to the pilot.
The quirky drama would focus on Macy's character, an upstanding citizen who also happens to be the leader of a group of burglars. The plot is revealed in "flash forward" mode with Macy's character, Todd Becker, imprisoned in the future. Along with his cohorts, Becker steals from major corporations and gives to charity. Ah, that's nice.
Macy and co-writer Steven Schachter previously worked on Door to Door and The Wool Cap for TNT. Schachter will direct the pilot for Family Man.
Another pilot, an untitled drama from Steven Bochco starring Jane Kaczmarek and Mark-Paul Gosselaar was also greenlit by the network.
I really like the idea of this new series, and if it runs back to back with The Closer, even better. One could do worse than a night of TV featuring William H. Macy and Kyra Sedgwick.
Also, since the series' name is very similar to Family Guy, maybe they could do a crossover episode. That would be both awesome and pointless.

"Family Man" sounds like a post-modern take on "Robin Hood".

Has there ever been a successful show once William H. Macy has signed on? It seems like he is the proverbial death warrant to any show. I guess if he starts a show he can't be the only person to ruin it.

Tell me Jose, when you watch "Robin Hood", do you cheer for the Sherriff of Nottingham. Saxon Socialism at its best.
