September is that magical month we TV fanatics have been waiting for, when all our favorite shows return and new shows try to find a place in our hearts and our DVRs.
However, don't spend your August reading books and spending time with loved ones, because there are a few shows popping up this month you may want to check out. Someone spent a lot of time building that TV set, so the least you can do is sit around and watch whatever is on. Here's a few things:
-
August 1 (today): The Nine returns to ABC at 10:00 p.m. to finish off those six unaired episodes
-
August 4: ABC has the first episode of Masters of Science Fiction. See the rest of the schedule here
-
August 5: Killer Wave crashes onto ION
-
August 7: Dennis Miller hosts Grand Slam on GSN, a game show that pits winners of other game shows (such as Jeopardy champ Ken Jennings) against one another
-
August 8: Hotel Babylon hits BBC America at 9:00 p.m. Also, Explorer kicks off a new season on the National Geographic Channel
-
August 10: Flash Gordon premieres on SciFi at 9:00 p.m.
-
August 12: Comedy Central Roast of Flavor Flav (10:00 p.m.), and new episodes of Robot Chicken on Adult Swim (11:30 p.m.)
-
August 13: Weeds returns for its third season, and David Ducohvny's new series, Californication, also premieres (both on Showtime). Also, the 38th season of Sesame Street begins.
-
August 17: High School Musical 2 premieres on Disney Channel at 8:00 p.m.
-
August 21: Anchorwoman, the already-controversial reality/comedy/whatever program about a former swimsuit model who becomes the anchorperson for a TV station in Tyler, Texas, kicks off at 8:00 p.m. Also, CNN's three-part series on religious fundamentalism begins at 9:00 p.m.
-
August 25: At 9:00 p.m., Lifetime has The Murder of Princess Diana, a miniseries based on the book by Noel Botham. The TV movie continues August 26 and 27
-
August 26: Frisky Dingo returns to Adult Swim at midnight
-
August 29: Pantry Raid, a new series on Style in which Michael Schulson whips up meals using only the limited amount of food found in a person's home, debuts at 9:00 p.m.

There's already been good summer fare on. Eureka, So You Think You Can Dance, and Ice Road Truckers have all bee great enjoyment this summer for me.
I'm watching other stuff too (like On The Lot), but I'm not proud of it...

Correct me if I am wrong, but doesn't My Boys start today (Aug 1st)?
That show is a great way to pass the time.

My Boys started Sept 30th - but yes that should be TOP of the list of shows to watch during the summer along with Big Brother.

That's a pretty sad list...out of those, the only one I'm bothering with is "Masters of Science Fiction." But as other people said, it's not exactly a drought out there. My regular shows include "The 4400", "Burn Notice", "Kyle XY", "Eureka", "Damages" (maybe--the first episode intrigued me), "Traveler" (I'm behind on my TiVo), and "No Reservations with Anthony Bourdain". Not a bad lineup, especially when you throw in the first season DVD of "St. Elsewhere" I'm watching each Wednesday night, and a Netflix movie or two.

My favorite reality show no-one else watches, Solitary, is back starting August 11th on the Fox Reality Channel.

They're also rerunning Season One starting August 5th.
Imagine Survivor distilled down to the challenges. Or Big Brother where everyone has their own Diary Room. And they can't leave. No alliances, no backbiting, just skill and endurance.

The first 3 eps of Weeds have already showed up on the net (check mininova or your favorite torrent site) and I can recommend them HIGHLY. Continues right where the excellent 2nd season left off.
Really looking forward to Californication too.
