I'm not finding a lot of information about this, and probably wouldn't have found anything if my pal Wild Bill hadn't sent me a link to this article.
Buried within a lot of other NASCAR news is just a few words about a possible NASCAR-based sitcom being developed for FOX that will center on a "dysfunctional race team." That's the only details we have so far. The series could debut in January, but we'll let you know for sure when more information starts to pop up.
The first thing I thought of when I saw the phrase "dysfunctional race team" was the Kenny Rogers movie Six Pack. I have no idea if this new comedy will feature a pit crew consisting entirely of children, but that might be a good angle.
Like Jay, I've poked my share of fun at NASCAR, but there's no denying the sport has transcended the racetrack and conquered television, IMAX screens and even the romance novel bizness (no, seriously). Despite the occasional jab from folks like myself who will never understand the allure of this sport, it has persevered and garnered a base of true fans who couldn't care less what I think.
So, for any NASCAR fans out there: you love to watch the races, but would you watch a sitcom about NASCAR? Share your feelings in the comments, we're all friends here.

I would watch if it were a drama. Seriously, multi-million dollar contracts, corporate mergers, beauty queen girlfriends, family squabbling, and rags-to-riches backstories. NASCAR has all the makings of an Aaron Spelling drama. Too bad he's not around to make it. This season's off-track happenings have been far more entertaining than the racing.
As a comedy it'd be too obvious. Just watch the movie instead...Talladega Nights.
And oh yeah, they could build the endorsements right in and make it more authentic.

sport (spôrt, spōrt)
n.
Physical activity that is governed by a set of rules or customs and often engaged in competitively.
Nascar is an activity! With rules! And its competitive! OMG It must be a sport!
Anway,
Nascar.com owned by Turner broadcasting used to run a similar animated cartoon called "The Kellys." It was mildly entertaining.
As with any show, if the the actors and writing are something I like, I'll watch it. Because its racing related (not just Nascar) I'd give it a shot anyway, because it interests me.

Well, Poker is "an activity! With rules! And its competitive!" so it must be a sport. Hey, it's hard work pushing those big chip stacks into the center of the table. On the other hand you're less likely to be physically maimed playing Poker (and in all seriousness, the physical stress that a human body goes through driving any race car - even ones that only turn left - takes a lot of physical training).
I can see either a comedy or a drama about a NASCAR team (with that big ol' product placement right on the hood of the car) although "Taladega Nights" made a lot more money than "Days Of Thunder" did so comedy is the obvious direction to go. Just remember, as Annabeth said on an episode of "The West Wing", the drivers are all hunks: "red hot hottentot hotties."
