American Idol's band search to debut in October

American Idol castEarlier this year, Ryan Seacrest announced the American Idol-spinoff titled The Next Great American Band. The show would showcase the best garage talent this nation has to offer and let us vote for the next All-American Rejects or, better yet, Doughtry Daughtry.

We reported this spring that the show was trying to be stopped by the producers of the very similar America's Hot Musician. Apparently, the plan didn't work as Fox announced that the show, created by Simon Fuller of Idol and So You Think You Can Dance? fame, is set to debut October 19 according to Reality TV World.

I was really surprised that someone would try and halt anything involving American Idol -- it is an unstoppable machine that will steamroll over anything in its way. But really? Trying to stop a reality show because it is "too similar." I am pretty sure that if that was a concern we wouldn't have Don't Forget the Lyrics AND The Singing Bee, because one karaoke-inspired show just isn't enough.

Also, no word on who will host the show. I am really hoping they bring back Brian Dunkelman, who's recent Ryan Seacrest-bashing comments would create great tension between the shows. Furthermore, what about the judges? I am hoping for Courtney Love, The Edge from U2 and Fred Durst, for a little irony. What do you guys think?
