National Geographic's long-running series Explorer returns with a new season on August 8 at 8:00 p.m. The series will once again delve into interesting facets of science, technology and nature.
The special I'm most looking forward to is "Science of Dogs" on August 15. This episode will focus on the world of science dogs: you know, dogs who wear lab coats and work in laboratories, perfecting different types of kitten poison, that sort of thing.
Okay, it's actual about how man and nature have worked in conjunction to develop the innumerable breeds of dog that now populate our planet, some of which didn't even exist one hundred and fifty years ago. The episode will examine both the good and bad sides of this type of breeding.
Dogs: they fulfill our need for companionship and sate our desire to play God and control the universe. Is it a coincidence that "dog" spelled backwards is "god?" Yes, actually, it is.
Other episodes include "Jellyfish Invasion" (we must breed special dogs to stop them!), "Ultimate Crocs," "Science of Babies," and "Afghan Heroin."
