Comic-Con: Cheat Sheet (Thursday)

Comic-Con GENERIC

When it comes to television, Comic-Con is one enormous marketing machine for early adopting fanboys and girls. Each panel is constructed around dropping one or two spoilerific bon mots to the core fanbase so let's not waste any time and just cut to the chase. I'll follow-up with full panel reports, but in the meantime, here's the big news from Comic-Con this Thursday, July 26th.

(WARNING: Potential spoilers for all things pop culture and most things J.J. Abrams-related ahead.)

- The cat was let out of the bag at the Television Critic Association's event, but Harold Perrineau will definitely be back for Lost's fourth season. Not only will he be back, but he'll be rejoining the cast. No flashbacks. No guest starring turns. Michael is back in action. When exactly he'll be returning, however, is a question Damon Lindelof and Carlton Cuse wouldn't answer.

- Since the big Michael secret got out early, Damon and Carlton were good enough to show what will eventually become a Lost webisode - Dharma's orientation film for the Orchid Station. I'm sure this will be more fully dissected online by those Lost fans that have way too much time on their hands, but I can tell you that in the film, Dr. Marvin had two fully-functioning arms, what looked like a cloned bunny and a foul mouth. Dr. Marv referred to the island's "Casimir effect." I refer you to Wikipedia for further sleuthing.

- Confirming previously published rumors, Heroes' Sylar, actor Zachary Quinto, will be playing Spock in the newest Star Trek film adaptation. The big surprise, however, was that Leonard Nimoy will also be back as Spock. Old Spock, Young Spock. You get the picture. Could this mean that William Shatner may be on board for a cameo role? Possibly.
- J.J. Abrams also unveiled a new poster for the mysterious Cloverfield/Monstrous/1.18.08 film. It won't be called Monstrous, and it was born out of J.J.'s desire to see an American monster movie that rivaled Japan's Godzilla. So, it's definitely a monster movie, and it's definitely not Voltron. And, here, in a shoddy pic shot taken on my hotel room floor, is the poster:

Cloverfield
