24 director Jon Cassar and producer/writers David Fury, Evan Katz and Manny Coto fielded an hour's worth of questions from Comic-Con attendees and fans. I've posted some of their insights after the jump in case any of them might be construed as spoiler-esque in spirit.
- CTU will be disbanded by the government at the start of Season 7. Jack will be hauled in front of a Senate Committee to explain his actions over the past several seasons. The show, itself, will be set in Washington DC and not Los Angeles.
- While it wasn't filmed, there was an alternate ending to Season 6 discussed. It ended with Jack walking away from the cliff and hearing a voice. "Jack, we have a lot to talk about." Jack turns, and who should he see, but Tony Almeda - alive and well. The panel reminded us that unless we have seen someone dead, deader than a doornail, they very well may not be.
- While a 24 movie won't be made until the television show is complete, one of the devices they considered using for it was making the first hour of the movie in movie time, and the second half in real time. As in, something would set off the clock in the second half. They may not go with this structure, but it was put on the table.
- They thought once or twice about filming a prequel, but realized that the show's drama is dependent on putting people in grave danger. Since we know Jack lives, it just wouldn't be much fun.
- Josh is not Jack's son, but they did consider making him Phillip's son. They decided against it because it made them feel icky. Me, too.
- There are no immediate plans to bring Chase back.
- Peter Weller (Christopher) talked himself out of being killed off before Tony and even talked himself into way more episodes than he was originally intended to be in.
- The fan phone kept on director Jon Cassar's desk will be turned back on in January. Don't leave a message.

I'm pretty sure we saw Tony "deader than a doornail", what with the fact that he was killed on-screen and all. With logic like that it seems to give the produces free reign to bring back anyone that didn't show up on-screen in a CSI-style autopsy scene.

While it's not quite Africa, I'll admit that CTU being disbanded is one hell of a shake up in the series. Thank God, the formula was getting really stale.
And finally we can put to rest those quotes Meredith loved to put around nephew while writing those reviews. Hallelujah!

Oooh...I love the spoiler about Jack being hauled in front of a senate committee. The scenario reminds me of the two-episode arc of "X-Files" where Scully has to answer questions about her job from sceptical congressmen.
Already I'm starting to get the vibe of next season. I suspect the new president will be an idealist who doesn't believe in "out of the box" schemes (or torture) to fight terrorism. Unfortunately, she will be in for a rude awakening.

I can't believe for a second that Tony Almeida is alive.
24 was the best show uncontested for several seasons. In season 4, although it was good, it just started becoming way too unbelievable. Although the show really is far from real, it used to be much more believeable. I still watch, but have not been the fan i used to be. I mean, 2 years being tortured and 15 minutes after being released he's running around as if it's season 1 again.
In closing, if Tony Almeida comes back on the show, as much as i loved his character, I will be done watching the show. This is not LOST people!!!

When you say this is not lost: well i know it's not lost but you need to remember that at the end of day 4 jack bauer faked his own death, so tony could have faked his death because it's a possiblity. anyway shame there are no plans to bring back chase back (he was hot). i think season 7 will be the best season yet! i really did not like day 6 but the first 4 hours were amazing.

As much as I'd like to see Tony back - his character, and relationship with Jack, were great - you've got to have some sort of finality. Otherwise we could end up with an 8th season where the big baddie ends up being Victor Drazen partnering with Nina Myers, Michelle is back running CTU and Jack has been reunited with Teri. And while we're at it, bring back Gael and Palmer!

I agree, not about Chase being hot but I think they should bring Tony back, if i recall Michelle was immune to the virus, why can't Tony be immune to the medicine's negative effects? what if Henderson just hit a pressure point and the medicine just passed tony out into a coma and Jack just never checked his pulse?! unfortunately i lost hope of tony being alive after season 6, if he comes back now, it BETTER be a NICE entrance...like in season 4 when he saved Jacks life (both times).

Tony not dead? Yeah right -- next thing you know they'll be telling us that David Palmer isn't dead either because technically we never saw whose body it was under the sheet.

They can say Josh isn't Jack's until the end of 24 and I won't believe it. That kid looked way to much like Jack not to be his. I'll never buy Graham was his biological father!

I am so glad they didn't go with that because as it is I was already getting the Philip-is-Josh's-father vibes from their final scenes anyway. Ick!
