The fine folks over at the Sci Fi channel sent over a copy of the WWTBAS? premiere and, for better or worse, it's much of the same. One thing I've noticed, among my friends anyway, is that this show is kind of polarizing. People either love its campy humor and look forward to the new episodes, or they despise it and wonder what it is doing on the Sci Fi channel. It's topped only by the ECW in that regard. While there is a whole new crop of potential superheroes, the basics of the show remain the same. So, if you didn't like it before, I don't think season two is going to do anything to change your mind. On the other hand, fans should look forward to another fun season. I'm not convinced that they managed to get the best group of potential heroes they could have, as some of those that we see in the very brief casting segment looked rather interesting. However, it is a pretty solid group overall.
I'll start with my early favorites. Basura communicates with insects to enlist their help and can tell by touching an object how it was made. She seems like a really interesting girl. On the men's side, my favorite so far is The Defuser. an expert at gadgetry who specializes in non-lethal weapons. The police detective comes across as a good guy an should be fun to watch.
Also along for the ride: Ms. Limelight gains the powers of characters in action movies. Hyper-Stryke is a martial-arts specialist who can use his sweat as a weapon. Whip-Snap gets her power from her whip and is able to turn foes to dust.
Mindset has the power of telekinesis and wears armor 'from the future.' Mr. Mitzvah can use his Star of David paddle to deflect any attack. Braid is a shape shifter who can appear as any age, race, or gender. Parthenon gains his power from an ancient gauntlet called the Armaguard. And Hygena, who fights crime, and grime, with weapons made from cleaning tools.
The format remains the same as Stan Lee appears on various flat screens to direct the superheroes to various tasks. And as in season one, those tasks are not always what they seem to be. You'll see the heroes once again duped as they focus on one obstacle while completely ignoring the real point of the challenge.
The hokey special effects are back, as is the lair, and a whole lot of cheesy dialog. There are also new villains to be faced, but that will come later in the series. Overall, it's a well done continuation of the series. Who Wants To Be A Superhero? premieres July 26th at 9PM.

Basura means "trash" in Spanish - do you think that's what she was going for in the name?

I agree with your picks, Brett. Basura is the best, followed by The Defuser and then maybe Hygena?
And now back to the primiere!

I like Hyper-Strike. He seems as though he could make a fun and whitty superhero. I mean, this dude has some sweet moves. I like him.
