I really didn't want to like Victoria Beckham. In photos, she never smiles. She is always impeccably dressed and frighteningly skinny. She was Posh Spice, but she's more famous for marrying David Beckham. She always seemed like a bitch, quite frankly. But, I am embarrassed to say that I found her adorable after watching last night's special, Victoria Beckham: Coming to America.First, let's talk about the problems with the show. Some of the little adventures she went on were awfully contrived. I think her American personal assistant was a set-up and she was the mechanism for setting up other situations that producers were hoping would become funny. Examples? Lunching with ladies in Beverly Hills, experiencing an earthquake with a quake specialist, and throwing out the first pitch at a Dodgers game. I really didn't think these little gimmicks were necessary because she's pretty damn funny on her own.
I'm not sure about the meeting with Perez Hilton, who works out of a coffee shop in LA. Perez seemed quite shocked that Victoria Beckham was coming to see him. He honestly didn't seem prepared to meet the person he's been making snarky remarks about for years. And Victoria definitely won out in that meeting- her sense of humor about not eating or smiling in front of cameras was great. It's funny, because in all the photos you see of her, she seems to take herself so seriously but she really doesn't. As she said at the beginning of the show, David's hot and she's funny.
Maybe I've had the wool pulled over my eyes, but Victoria Beckham seemed like a genuinely nice person who really centers herself around her husband and children. She knows she's high maintenance about fashion and she laughs about it. I also liked that we saw just the smallest hint of bitchiness whenever someone mentioned her husband being 'hot' or asked her about David Beckham. I'm sure we were given a rosy view of Victoria Beckham, but even if she is a bitch, there's no hiding that sense of humor and wit. That makes her more likable than Paris Hilton for sure.
While watching, I collected a few of her best one-liners on various topics:
Rental House: "It looks like a giant, dusty ice cube."
Paparazzi: "Did anybody see that photographer? I am sure it was one of those lads from 'N Sync."
Lounging: "I reckon this is what Paris Hilton does every single day."
Assistant: "It's good that she thinks I'm kind-of normal."
Driver's manual: "We need to translate this into English."
Getting pulled over by police: "I was completely shocked and devastated because... I was wearing flat shoes."
Crazy woman at DMV wearing dog slippers: "I love your slippers. Those are fierce."
Before facing photographers: "Let me get myself miserable before we go out."
House hunting: "It's exhausting being fabulous."

Dammit, I liked her too. She actually seems like someone I'd be friends with, which just shocks me. The bit with the sex shop & the blow-up doll was hilarious.
I cannot believe I'm saying this - but I'm sorry this wasn't a whole series & I hope she does more tv. She was really, really funny.

I thought she was completely charming, tongue-in-cheek, intelligent, playful, and goofy. (All qualities that I never thought I would attribute to her.) I'm disappointed that the show won't be extended into more episodes. She's almost more appealing to me than her sexy husband...almost. But in terms of personality...it's ALL Victoria.

Victoria Beckham and Tina O is like an updated version of the UK hit "Absolutly Fabulous" but now can be done in LA with the hair dresser, and assistant. I noticed her assitant didn't get the price tag off the bottom of her new LVuitton shoes, as she was bent over, under the desk, learning how to fold and crouch, when and earthquake hits. She was concerned about her bum and Tina O showed us her's. Funny, delightfully unexpected good time.
Go get em girls

I was talking about the show to my sister and she'd read that the whole reason Posh and Becks got together is that they were both very family oriented people.
I didn't see the show but I've heard that people were shocked they really liked her. Maybe NBC will change their minds and give her more, like they did with Trump. I'd rather see more Posh than the Trumpster anyday!

[EDITED] The show came in 2nd in the ratings. It got bad reviews from people who didn't seem to understand that she is joking about herself and her image.
I think that's probably the last we'll see of Victoria, aside from her scowl in the tabloids. Pity.

I love this girl. She is super sexy. And a lot more intelligent than I thought she would be. She's no intellectual, but she does come across as thoughtful and fun.
I saw her and Becks entering the CAA HQ last night in Century City when I was out walking my dog. She is even hotter in person.

You are miss un-informed. The ratings for
"Victoria Beckham Comes to America" just came out 10 minutes ago. Not only was Victoria Beckhams show number #1 they are replaying it this Thursday. So, darling, how do you want your crow. Underdone to match your information. Have a nice day, but get good directions

I loved this special! Victoria was so funny and was great to watch. She really made me like her. I was surprised how much I liked the show, because so many critics hated it. Well they got it wrong- caused I loved it and from what I see on different sites so did the viewers.

I also liked her comments during the little party with the old ladies in Beverly Hills. They kept pelting her with questions about money, and how "you're husband's making 50 million on this, right" and other such comments naming prices and salaries and worth. Victoria said in the confessionals that all this made her really uncomfortable, and that money is not something she talks about in the open.
It made the the American women look really obsessed with wealth and money, and it made Victoria seem much more human and realistic.

You're right that she made some self-deprecating jokes, but she still treated everyone around her (her assistant, her real-estate agent, the people at the DMV, the coffee shop, etc) with a superior attitude that was very nasty.
And the fact that her best friends are her hairstylist and make-up person? That seems more than a little shallow to me.
The only thing she did to prepare for her husband and children, despite yakking about how she lives for them, was go shopping. She bought a house, she bought a watch, etc. I would argue that her life revolves around shopping.

I thought she was fantastic. Honestly for a girl who started out as a spice and now loaded, married to hottie with 3 gorgeous boys, has proven anyone can do it. You dont hear much of the other spices, and to see she IS just a normal girl who definately knows how to handle herself and who i could see myself enjoying a pina colada with, i think its great. What sort of girl wouldn't dream of being in her shoes... especially when yr looking for a house thats got a price tag of 17 mill. ( i'm trying to find one for 400 thou and not trying to send myself broke) I cant wait for the next episode. Good on ya Vic.

Barbara B,
You're really obnoxious, and wrong. You said, "Victoria Beckhams show number [was] #1 ..." No qualifications. Just that it was #1 and were pretty annoying about the fact that you thought that Anna Johns was incorrect. When in fact:
"A "Wife Swap" repeat, 3.9/7, put ABC on top at 8 p.m. The NBC special "Victoria Beckham: Coming to America" scored a 3.5/6, finishing in a dead heat with reruns of "How I Met Your Mother" and "Old Christine" on CBS. A "Hell's Kitchen" repeat was fourth for FOX. "Everybody Hates Chris" and "All of Us" each drew a 1.2/2 for The CW."

The show won the 8pm slot in the demo.
""Victoria Beckham: Coming to America," which was originally supposed to be a six-episode series but was whittled down into a one-hour special, averaged 4.9 million viewers and a 2.2 rating/7 share in the adults 18-49 demo, according to preliminary estimates released Tuesday by Nielsen Media Research. That was good enough to give the special the demo win in its 8 p.m. slot. A repeat of ABC's "Wife Swap" (5.3 million, 2.0/6) took the hour in total viewers."

It is in fact being re-rerun, but as the Hollywood Reporter notes, it was "whittled down" to a one-hour special ... it's just getting run twice.

Ah... Victoria Beckham. Since you all seem to like her, can you keep her please??? She's been so rediculously over-exposed in the UK, that I'd be happy if I never hear anything about her again.
To be honest, yes, she has always struck me as a generally relatively nice, if somewhat self-absorbed person, but being nice isn't any reason for her to be on TV or all over the papers. Yes, she does have self-depreciating sense of humour... she's British, it's a very cultural thing to do.

So it was #1 in the 18-49 yr old demographic?
Still sounds impressive to me considering the LAMBASTING it was given by the press.
