A lot of people have wanted to do this for a long time, and now Jon Lovitz has done it. It also brings up something from the past I wasn't aware of.
At L.A.'s Laugh Factory the other night, Lovitz and Andy Dick got into an argument about Phil Hartman's death and Andy Dick's drug use. Five months before Brynn Hartman shot Phil and herself to death, Dick allegedly gave her cocaine at a house party that Lovitz also attended. Brynn Hartman had been sober for ten years, and now Lovitz blames Dick giving her the cocaine as the reason why she got hooked again and killed Hartman and herself five months later.
According to witnesses, Lovitz picked Dick up several times and smashed his head and face into the bar, causing him to bleed. This isn't the first time they've had words. When Lovitz took over for Hartman on NewsRadio, he told Dick "I wouldn't be here now if you hadn't given Brynn that cocaine." And then last year Dick confronted Lovitz at a restaurant, taking drinks off the table and saying he put the "Phil Hartman hex" on him and that he was going to die next.
Yikes.

Andy Dick is another "celebrity" who would disappear if people would just stop paying attention. He really just needs to go away.

Blaming the death on someone does not deserve a medal.
Yeah, it was stupid to give coke to a former addict but that doesn't make him responsable for the death of Phil Hartman.

Not taking up for Andy, because I think he is just what his name says he is; but we must remember that Brynn
was an adult and had an obligation to her family to refuse
whatever drug she was offered. Andy needs to get clean
himself. He might even be funny if he did! Kudos to Jon
Lovitz for calling him on it, however.

the medal is for putting Dick in his place. He is a no-talent hack who only remains in the public eye by being a rude, obnoxious jackass. He has a long history of drug abuse and it's remarkable he has survived this long.
For saying something as stupid as "I put the 'Phil Hartman hex' on you - you're the next one to die." - yeah, I think he deserves a punch in the head.

Brynn was 10 years sober? I had no idea. I'm glad Lovitz did what he did.

Andy Dick was partying with David Strickland (Suddenly Susan) just before he committed suicide. Coincidence?

No coincidence. You look up from a pile of blow and catch a look at yourself all powdery-faced sitting next to Andy Dick, you almost owe it to the world to off yourself. Unfortunately Phil's wife was such a bitch she couldn't just go alone.

Seriously, what is wrong with our culture to accept this type of barbaric behavior while praising a man for doing this?
Jon Lovitz slammed a mans head into a bar 4 or 5 times and people are saying this is ok?
I'm not trying to stick up for Andy Dick by no means, that guy has his own issues but obviously Jon Lovitz has some issues of his own considering this whole Hartman family wipeout thing happened way back in the 90's. I guess I can understand the situation a little better if Andy actually gave Phil Hartman (not his wife) but Phil Hartman cocaine and he died that night. Then it would be safe to say Andy was somewhat directly responsible for Phil's death but that is certainly not the case.
People need focus blame on the root of the problem. Phil Hartman's wife was nuts and she killed him. On drugs or not, anyone that goes to the extreme of killing someone probably isn't playing with a full deck and I recommend anyone who supports physical harm to another human being as acceptable to seriously get some psychological help.
There is something truly wrong with our culture.

maybe the way he expressed himself was wrong, but i can imagine being in his shoes. if a good friend of mine died, and i felt that someone was responsible for that, i dont know how well id do in the same room either.
lets not lose site that this isnt petty bs (ie Joe Rogan and his war against everyone) this is a man who lost a close friend. he didnt just beat dick up because hes a jerk (which he is).

It's amazing more people haven't kicked Andy Dick's ass. I can't stomach the guy and won't watch anything he's in.
