Here's some cool animation stuff I found over the past week or so:
Cartoon Brew has a lot of cool stuff, so I'll start there first. First of all, Jerry Beck has a new book, The Hanna Barbera Treasury. The book will focus mostly on the Hanna Barbera series created in the '50s and '60s. It comes out in October.
Also via the Brew comes this documentary about the life and work of animator Tex Avery, the man who was arguably the one most responsible for putting the "looney" in "Looney Tunes," and later brought that same magic to MGM. The doc is from 1988 and is split into several parts.
Speaking of Looney Tunes: Looney Tunes Golden Collection Volume Five comes out October 30. I've been collecting these DVDs as they come out, and trust me, they're worth every penny. This new volume contains sixty original theatrical shorts and a PBS documentary about the late Chuck Jones.
Remember those Captain Linger and Wonder Twins shorts from the early days of Adult Swim? They're now available for your viewing pleasure on the Adult Swim video site. Go there and click on the OTHER tab to view them.
Speaking of Adult Swim online video, the new hard-to-read schedule that went up yesterday seems to promise episodes of Tom Goes to the Mayor, Perfect Hair Forever, and even Squidbillies and Stroker and Hoop? I'll let you guys decipher it yourself. Bring a magnifying glass.
Did you know "What's Opera, Doc?" one of the best Bugs Bunny cartoons ever, premiered fifty years ago? It did, and you should watch it [via Digg]:

Thanks for mentioning the Captain Linger and WonderTwins cartoons that went up on TheFix. I don't go there that often and search, so thanks for the heads up.
