(S08E04) Carol, the walking Ambien prescription, always seemed like a strange candidate to be on a reality show. Especially a show like Big Brother that is so dependent on interesting personalities to keep the viewing audience engaged
Four full episodes have aired, and I can't think of a single memorable thing she did the entire time she was there. I've seen cloud formations that have captured my attention more effectively, and that's taking into account the fact that Carol was one of the more attractive girls in the house.
I can't think of a single time she showed any real passion for being on the show, and her attempts at campaigning to not be voted off seemed halfhearted at best.
Which is why I was glad that practically the entire house decided it was time for her to leave.
The vote ended up being split 10 to 1 and judging by the chatter leading up to the elimination, Jeneric was probably the only person who cast a vote in Carol's favor.
I was actually pretty surprised it played out this way. As one of the house guests pointed out, Carol seemed like a much weaker player than Amber which makes her a better candidate to keep around in these early days of the competition.
I think Amber is dangerous for three reasons:
For starters, she's by far the most sympathetic tenant in the house. She's a single mother who takes care of 5-6 people in her home, and she's doing this all on a waitresses wages. That's a tough story to beat on its own.
Secondly, it seems as though she's already aligned herself with Dustin who appears to be one of the stronger players in the house. Carol didn't have a single strategic alliance that I can recall.
Most importantly, there's no telling what types of exotic animals Amber is harboring in that mountain of hair on top of her head. It could be a cobra, it could be a turtledove with avian flu. Either way, it will probably equate to death. Why risk your chance at half a million dollars? Why risk your life? They should have gotten rid of her when they had the chance.
Leading up to the eventual vote-off and the awkward interview of Carol by the Chenanator, we got to learn what the real issue is between Daniele and her dad.
The real reason for the drama between Daniele and Evil Dick, as explained by Dick's son, stemmed from the fact that Daniele borrowed some money from Dick and was unable to pay it back. Dick's son also pointed out that Dick didn't exactly handle the situation as well as he should have, so he equally at fault for the falling out.
Daniele's grandmother (Evil's mom) also let us know that Dick had Daniele when he was 22-years-old and that he didn't adjust to the life of a father all that well.
Through both of these stories, I failed to catch whatever happened to Dick's wife / Daniele's mom. I can only assume she's not in either of their lives any longer.
Julie Chen also grilled the three pairs of house guests who have unfinished business with one another, and we discovered that:
Dick is just plain happy to be talking to his daughter again even if it's on a purely superficial level. Daniele just finds it awkward to be doing all of this in front of strangers.
Joe likes Dustin's smile and Dustin thinks Joe has a winning personality. Basically, this is code speak for "we still want to claw each others eyes out and destroy one another's baby t-shirt collection."
Carol and Jessica pretended to be completely over whatever spat they had in 8th grade, but we understand they are still petty, catty, immature twenty-somethings with the conflict resolution skills of Rosie O'Donnell and Elisabeth Hasselbeck.
Prior to the HOH competition we got a mini-expose on the life of America's player. Eric has been a student of the game for eight solid years which was probably going to make him a great tactician in the Big Brother house.
That's why his parents and friend let out an enormous moan of disbelief when they realized he was going to be America's player. They seem to be under the assumption that this will completely ruin his strategy that was eight years in the making.
I'm under the impression that Eric does not have to comply with all of America's collective suggestions since he gets $10,000 for every five tasks that he completes. Doesn't that mean he can opt out of America's choice if he doesn't think it aids his chances of moving forward in the game? I'm going to need to see the Big Brother rule book on this one.
Tonight, America is voting on who Eric campaigns for to have removed from the house.
HOH Competition - Majority Rules
This weeks HOH competition was of the question asking variety. The contestants were asked a question and they had to try and make their answer match what the majority of the other players chose as their answer.
This was probably one of the strangest and most poorly executed HOH competitions I've watched on the show. Julie Chen had to keep reminding the contestants to reveal their answers and there was a whole mess of awkward pauses and confusion on the part of the players.
The questions were:
- In the butter me up comp who did the majority in the house want to rub the butter off of? Daniele or Jen? Majority said Daniele.
- Who does the majority of the house say they'd not let their daughter go on a date with. Nick or Mike?
Majority said Nick. - Who does the majority of the house say would cheat on a significant other? Dustin or Joe? Everyone picked Joe.
- Who does the majority of the house say would hold a grudge the longest? Nick or Daniele? Majority said Daniele.
- Who does the majority of the house say is the best person to cheer them up when they are depressed? Eric or Jessica? Majority said Eric.
- Who is most likedly to turn $500 thousand into $500 million? Kail or Zach? Majority chose Zach.
- Who would help an old lady cross the street? Jameka or Amber? Majority chose Amber.

- How many gallons of water does the spinning teacup in the backyard hold?
Any normal person would assume the question was referring to a fully intact teacup. At least I did, but maybe that makes me abnormal. I'm seriously doubting Jen took the entrance into consideration when she answered, but regardless, she ended up winning this week's HOH.
That actually works out splendidly for me because she will probably do something stupid which should make for some good writing material. I'm also interested in seeing how they dress up her HOH room.
My guess is it will be filled wall to wall with pictures of her face, which is no doubt her favorite thing on the planet.
At least that's what I'm hoping for because I'd love to see her on the floor in the fetal position, crying and screaming, "These pictures of me are so ugly! Is that a pimple?! Whyyyyyyyyyy?!?," and then stab herself with one of those Big Brother house keys. Preferably, Nick's key for dramatic effect.
Just the prospect of this happening has me giddy with excitement. I can't wait until Sunday.

Jessica needs to go as I detest her voice.
Sounds like she does helium before she "squeaks."

The whole section towards the end about Jen and the HoH room had me cracking up, that was hilarious!!! The crack about Carol and Jessica's resolution skills was also spot on! I love these reviews, they make the experience of BB8 that much better. ^_^

When I watched the show tonight, I paused my DVR at the tie breaker question. I totally questioned whether or not the were meaning with the open space- cause it would all come out (well except for 9 gallons). My friend thought I was stupid for thinking too much into it, but it did seem logical.
BTW no way Jen put it together.
Now she's not my favorite (I LOVE Dustin) but she is fun for tv cause she can say some crazy sh-t and will make BB fun. And please who can't love a girl who makes you laugh so hard when she cries about her picture

I think that everyone fully realized that, of the two, Carol was the one recruited into the house. Jessica is clearly the player here, just as it seems very likely that Dick and Dustin were also the players recruited to be in the house. It's pretty easy to see that all three would have talked up their bad life experiences and given Grodner & Co. a reason to bring the conflicts aboard. We're just lucky that two of the three seem to have a strong desire to be in the game and play it. Carol just seemed happy to be there ... probably beat the hell out of spending her summer getting drunk with Kansas guys too stupid to leave the Midwest for college.

I find it hillarious that the only way Jameka even gets mentioned is if her name is pulled out of a bag or she gets eliminated. Though, to be fair, Mike gets about as much screen time, and Zack barely gets much more. Maybe there's just too many people in the house, so it's hard to focus on the ones who don't do much these days.
I immediately thought that it included the giant gaping hole, based on how the question was written. "How many gallons of water does the spinning teacup in the backyard hold?" means that specific teacup, i think.
I love how Jen won not cuz she was smarter than the rest, but because she's a complete moron.

The funniest part is that Jen is a moron for guessing 41 .. and then she gets rewarded because it was a trick question.
As soon as I heard Julie struggle through the question I said, somebody guess 1, because they will all go over.. alas nobody was that smart.
This America's player could be interesting as America can kind of guide him through things and maybe give him clues on alliances by who America has him target and vote out. Eric is a smart enough BB player that he should be able to read between the lines.
Keeping Amber in the house was good news for him, because she can be an important player to try and take out the block of 4.. compared to bore girl.
My big complaint this year so far is that there is nobody to really cheer for and get behind. Eric may have been that guy, but being "America's player" kind of takes the sting out of that. Evil Dick is the only one i kind of root for and man that guy has the most sh*t to deal with in the house. Everyone else is plain jane so far...
I also found it interesting that they didn't mention Daniellle's mom. Considering what was said she's obviously not in the picture, I wonder if she's dead or something. One thing that struck me with those old pictures and his son, was how "normal" they looked, which couldn't be more opposite than the way Dick looks now.

I hate, hate, hate that format for the competition. They ask a question, and ask you to answer what the majority will answer, but they never get anyone's actual answers. For instance, if someone would rather rub the butter off Jen, but think the rest of the house would say Daniele, then you never know that he would actually say Jen, you only know that he thinks the rest of the people will say Daniele. So instead of rewarding people who are able to guess how the majority will answer the question, they are rewarding people for being able to guess how the majority thinks the majority will answer the question, without anyone having to ever actually answer the question, which is ridiculous. They should just have them randomly flip to A or B, then have whatever the minority answer is sit down.

I really didn't care who got chucked out of the house this time. Carol is boooooorrrrriiiinnnggg, but I'm already so sick of Amber bawling all the time. Get a grip, girl!
Eric looks so familiar to me... He kinda reminds me of Rob Cesternino from Survivor Amazon and All Stars. If he is half the player that Rob was, he's got this in the bag!

Not sure why everyone thinks Carol was boring. That is a huge generalization for this early in the game. I'm surprised that no one is upset that Amber played the "single mother" card and stayed in the game because of that strategy.

Amber is more sympathetic, but she's obviously in it to win it. They would have been smarter to get her off the show instead of Carol.
I got that the last question's answer was going to be really low because of the cut-out of the cup. It's funny that Jen answered 40 gallons and won. Dumb luck (literally). It made no sense. She's a moron.

Don't feel too sorry for Amber supporting 5 or 6 people on a "waitresses" salary. First off she lives in Las Vegas (as I do) and she is a cocktail waitress. I am certain she makes a minimum of $250 per day and if she works weekends she easily is making close to 100K per year even if she works in a dive.
