A month after announcing that Supergirl would join The CW's Smallville as a new series regular, the network announced who will be playing her. TV Guide reveals that Clark Kent's cousin Kara will be played by Canadian Laura Vandervoort.Vandervoort fits the description from the Supergirl casting call: Caucasian 19-year-old who must be blond, smart, beautiful and funny. However, she is 22-years-old but since Tom Welling is a 30-year-old playing a teen, I guess fans will allow the actress to be three years older than the character!
Laura Vandervoort is better known for her portrayal of Sadie in Canada's Instant Star. She also guest starred on various TV shows such as CSI, The Dresden Files, Doc, and Mutant X.
Smallville fans should expect a handful from Kara. Series creator Al Gough reveals that he wanted a character who would shake things up. "She may be Clark Kent's cousin, but that doesn't mean she's going to be the obedient one!" he added in an interview with People. The character is also said to possess all of Clark's powers, including some he yet has to develop (read here that she can fly). Her rebellious demeanor will put her at odds with Clark but will intrigue Lex. She will potentially be a love interest for Jimmy Olsen. Kara is set to make her first appearance in the Season 7 premiere which should air sometime mid-September.

A potential love interest for Jimmy? That better mean that Chloe dumps him...not that Chloe isn't coming back. :x

Potential love interest for Jimmy? Thats Chloe's job! The super bitch is taking Chloe's job! She gets to use her superpower once and they kill her?! Not fair. If she's dead and Lana lives I'm done watching.

Isn't it possible that Clark is or will turn 20 this season thus easing the "30-year-old playing a teen" for Tom Welling?

ac: You'll keep watching ;)
Personally, I want Lana dead and Chloe living. And seeing that Kristin Kreuk is still in contract negociations even, my wish *may* happen.

Isabelle Carreau: I think even if she doesn't stay as a regular she will return toward the end of the season as a guest star. There is no way she was killed by the bomb. The truck in the camera's way is a sure sign of that. I think the death on the finale was either Lionel or Chloe. Sorry Lionel but you have to die, with Veronica Mars off the air I need my cute, smart blonde fix and Chloe is the last one left.
Unless, what if the expected death on the show was Lois Lane. She was stabbed and it looked like she was dead until Chloe brought her back. What are the chances of that being the big death?

ac: Do you read spoilers? Per spoilers, it looks like the death was Chloe but we all know it's not permanent. The others are all set to come back except Martha, who'll guest star in a few episodes, and Lana who'll... well, depends what type of contract she signs (or not).
As for Lana, the truck was shown to us as a way to "save her" if Kristin signs a contract to come back. If she decides to come back only for a few episodes, they could have Lana vanish (she took the truck and started a new life somewhere) and Clark finds her at a later time. If
she says "I'm done" they can either say she's really dead OR have a character say that she was indeed saved (maybe she wrote to Clark from afar just to say she is okay). The latter option would allow Kristin to come back if she ever wanted.
When the official word is given about what Kristin decided, I'll make sure to report it here on TV Squad.

Hmmm... another departure from the Superman canon - Supergirl and Jimmy O. potentially getting together? Big fan of the show and I love how well they've updated all the characters. To my knowledge though, Jimmy always dated Lois' sister Lucy, not Superman's cousin. Chloe has always been an "extra" character but given how they factored in Chloe being cousins with Lois and how great Allison Mack is in role, I've always given that all a pass. They brought that all together when Jimmy came in as her boyfriend. Now that Chloe is gone, it doesn't make sense for him to hook up with SG other than as a ratings boost or a cheap plot device.

This is Clark's third year out of high school. He is NOT a teenager. I'm not sure that Isabelle Carreau even watches Smallville.
