Yup, that's right, an open casket call, for FOX's new reality show, The Search For The Next Elvira.
It's happening this Friday (Friday the 13th, natch) at 4pm on The Queen Mary in Long Beach, CA. But if you can't make it there, you can download an application from the show's web site. They're looking for a new horror hostess to take the reigns from the classic horror movie icon.
I hope that Elvira isn't retiring. I mean, she doesn't host a show any longer but she still makes appearances and has a line of horror movie DVDs out. Is this new "Elvira" going to do the same thing she did, host horror shows on television and make appearances, and do it under the Elvira name? And what do you get if you win? Is there a new show in the work that the winner will host?
This is a crazy thing, really. As if there could ever be another Elvira. I don't think you can recreate something that happened naturally and without force. Whoever wins will just be just one notch above an Elvira impersonator.

You have to remember that Cassandra Petersen (who plays Elvira) is 58 years old. That's a bit old to be letting that much of yourself hang out for the world to see. Hence the "casket call" for a new Elvira. To truly qualify of course the winning contestant must be a natural redhead with pictures to prove it (Cassandra Petersen did some nude photos for men's magazines before she put on the black wig).
