A little over two months ago, I told you that a made-for-DVD movie was in the works for Showtime's Dead Like Me. Ellen Muth, star of the series, announced on her MySpace page that she's been informed the series could make a come back on TV if the movie sells well. In her post, Muth mentions a new concept being featured in the movie and that fans should give it a chance. Does that mean reapers will not get Post Its anymore?
Muth says that she is not allowed to talk about said new concept or the movie. The only info she does give is in answer to whether Mandy Patinkin is back or not: "It's no secret that Mandy has his own show now so he can't be involved in two at once so, there you go." In one reply to fan comments, the actress says "Change is the only thing in life that remains constant." After seeing that fans are reacting to the word "change" a little too much, the actress tries to reassure everyone by saying that "it's still the same story line [and] just a few new changes [are] being [because] Mandy isn't in it and because time, two years, have passed."
Ellen Muth also reveals that Bryan Fuller is not involved with the movie since he is working on Heroes. Muth says that if the series comes back to life it is possible it won't be on Showtime. She doesn't know if it will be on Sci Fi or another network. "I think the producers will have to shop it around," she answers.
I expect changes as the characters surely evolved since they are doing a time jump between the last episode and the movie. I'm all for change but there is such a thing as too much changes. What do you hope for the movie and said new concept?

I hope they at least have Mandy cameo in some fashion, even if it's just Rube finally making his final reap and moving on, I needs me some closure.

superbagman: I doubt that he'll even cameo :( But I agree with you that there should be some closure. Maybe at the beginning of the movie on the characters or maybe George in a voice-over will explain that he did do his last reap and moved on.

This is sad news, all the charaters worked wonderfuly and he was like a father to Ms. Muth on the show.
I don't see why he couldn't be in the movie at least a little bit. There are off times for TV shows. I understand that he can't do two TV shows at once, but DLM might not come back anyways. A movie and TV show show be doable.
At least some of the cast is coming back, but what's his name the drunk is on a Showtime show, and I think the blonde is in some new show.

David: Indeed, working on a TV series and a movie is doable. But Mandy is the lead on his TV series and would be quite important in the movie too, so maybe his schedule doesn't allow such a regime. Also, this year only, most TV series had a shorter hiatus to go back into production faster to get more episodes in the can before the potential writers strike. Therefore, he had less days off in between seasons... and maybe his time off didn't even match the movie schedule.
I agree with you guys though that it would be great to have him cameo to send his character off. For sure, he could be available for a day or two of shooting. If so, then the movie ppl need to write him a scene if they can.

No Brian Fuller, no Mandy Patinkin, I'm not even sure I want to go through the trouble of stealing this from Netflix.

I was incredibly excited about this news, a few weeks ago, but then it was tainted by the fact that Daisy, Daisy Adair will most likely be recast. I love Laura Harris in that role and I really think she's the only one who could pull it off. The weird thing is, the media sites, the blogs and even Ellen Muth herself, none of them are even admitting to or mentioning the fact that Laura's probably going to be missing as well. Everywhere I've read says that all of the main cast (minus Mandy) is coming back, but there was a casting call for Daisy's character recently. Weird. So no Mandy/Rube. No Bryan Fuller. And no Laura Harris. Which is a shame.
Mandy will most definitely be missed, though. It's going to create a whole new tone to the group.

Wow. I had no idea how good this show was until SciFi showed an all day marathon of it a couple of days ago. I was really impressed by it. When it first played on Showtime I totally dismissed it but after seeing a few episodes I definitely would buy the dvd of the series. If it does come back, I will most likely check it out.

Lynn: I looked around and indeed a casting notice for "Daisy" is out there. Sometimes, TV shows us bogus names and/or scenes from other characters to cast various characters. I would like to think that they are using the name Daisy and scenes of her in the movie to cast other characters. A girl can dream, eh? Although, I don't recall DLM ever doing that when they shot the series... So I'll come back down to earth and face the reality that it looks like we will have a "new" Daisy :(

Location directors (or whatever they're called) dropped by my place a couple weeks ago to film on our street. I was really looking forward to seeing them all, but it never happened. The story is here: http://tinmansthoughts.wordpress.com/2007/06/27/reapers-on-my-street/

AWESOME NEWS!!!!
Dead like me was the ONLY reason I kept Showtime. After the show ended I promptly cancelled the chanel.
I can't wait for a resurection of DEAD LIKE ME it has been sorely missed by this household. Even with some "changes" we will adapt and learn to love (or hate) the new characters and set our reminders every week!

Loved that show. Was so disappointed when it was prematurely yanked just when the characters were really being fleshed out. Sad that Mandy Patinkin and Laura Harris won't be in it but I certainly wish them well with their current projects. I look forward to the movie.

Something to remember, though, everybody -- Bryan Fuller left in the first half of Season One anyway, so alllll of Season Two was done by Masius, the same guy who wrote the script for the movie. Don't get me wrong, I love Fuller's work -- Wonderfalls is/was great, as is Heroes, and I'm looking forward to Pushing Daisies, too -- but Dead Like Me has already branched off quite a bit from where he had intended to take it.
My point: Loss of Mandy and Laura Harris is painful, but Fuller not being involved isn't likely to have affected the quality of the show (assuming you liked the last 2/3rds or 3/4s of the original series).
