(S04E03) "Yeah, it was real cozy listening to you snore all night Turtle. And please... tell me I didn't catch you whacking it at four AM?" - Eric
The thought of Turtle tugging it while I'm right next to him repulses me. I can't say that I blame E, but I guess that's what you have to expect when you're living in tight quarters with Drama. As many folks predicted, Drama's condo (which he technically couldn't afford) has become home to the gang... because Vince can't afford anything. Medellin needs to get some positive buzz and as Vince and Ari have realized, that's not going to happen with Eric running around saying the film sucks. The whole ordeal has created this pseudo-fight between Vince and E and so far, I think it's one of the best story lines the show has had.
Whatever, moving on. This "fight" between E and Vince is smart. It's not goofy. It feels intellectual and it boils down to the fact that they both have a monetary stake in this project. They need it to do good and it's forced them to care about this project way more than Aquaman, Queens Boulevard, or Head On.
With all the messy stuff that went into this episode (Vince essentially calling E "pizza boy;" Ari telling E he was ruining Vince's career; E actually getting a bid from Harvey off just the trailer), they still sat down at the end of the episode, beers in hand, and talked like calm adults. It feels much more real and far less frat boyish. The show is maturing, both through the characters and the story lines. This is good stuff.
But there are still issues. Walsh is going to flip when he finds out that Eric was shopping the film from only the trailer. He'll probably find out in France and go nuts at Cannes. Speaking of which, what if they don't win anything? Save for the 100K that Vince won at Dennis Hopper's house (it's already spent I'm sure), he's flat out broke. His career is shot if Walsh tweaks, the movie doesn't get good buzz, and it doesn't sell. I honestly don't see that happening... the show would be dead. The film is probably going to win something and as Vince pointed out to E, it's possible he's the one who's wrong. C'est la vie.

The stupidest element of the show right now: that Vince can't get work or drum up something. He's done foreign commercials in the past - always a surefire way to drum up big cash quickly. Also, many studios wanted him for blockbustery type films. He could have done any of those big films BEFORE making the idiotic drug runner movie. He owned the rights, so it's not like someone could have have done the film without him. Guys like Gary Oldman often take big hollywood productions to get the cash for smaller, personal films.
While the season is better, it's skating a line of ultimate stupidity with this "Vince is broke" BS. Doesn't happen in Hollywood with an A-lister. He could get several film projects lined and rolling while awaiting the release of "Scarface 2". In hollywood, nobody waits to make sure your last film bombed. You need several bombs before an a-lister becomes persona non grata.

Great episode on two different tracks. The drama between Vince and E. And the comedy with Drama and Turtle, which was classic 'Entourage'.
I find myself wondering if/when this show will jump the shark. It's in its 4th season and is one of the most consistently good shows. I disagree that 3B was atrocious.
IMO the show continues to have the one-two punch of comedic touches (who could imagine that the LA girl who gives the best rim job would be that fat and disgusting) and drama.
At least for now, it is the best show on TV.

Its Vince (the character) who is being an idiot, not necessarily the writers. Vince said he wasn't doing anything till he did Medellin and in order for him to do Medellin the way he wanted it, he had to go broke.
And he doesn't want to do just anything now (after filming is over) so he is putting himself behind the eight-ball. The movie has to do well enough to get them their money back and get Vince a good job for the rest of the season.
I think the movie will look good, Harvey will still want it and offer them lets say 2x as much and E will want to cash out and Vince will want to own it himself. He'll actually buy out E and then the movie will do terribly but be critically acclaimed.

Its becoming very annoying that despite constantly screwing up his career, Vince never has to take accountability for his mistakes. Last season they blamed Ari for everything and now E is wrong when it came to Medellin, even though the editor gave the hint that E is actually correct.

It is a bit hard to believe that Vince doesn't have any money. I agree with "YourFaceTheTrick"....someone as big as Vince could always find some temporary income.
Btw, what happened to Turtle's hot black girlfriend? They just dropped the story? That's a bit weird...

I'm wondering if the guy who cut the trailer doesn't end up re-cutting the film somehow. I get that the movie was accepted at Cannes but not every movie shown there has been a great movie. Personally I want E to be right on this one. It would show he has grown and he is learning the business. Vince is the only character that hasn't grown up some over the four seasons. I just figured that is the point since he's the star and he doesn't have to grow up.

@khamel, In season 2 they did the whole Japanese commercial thing. Stars as big as Vince is supposed to be could easily find money for the following:
1. International commercials
2. Celebrity appearances abroad (or even at major venues like big club openings, vegas casino events, etc)
3. Voice-over work in animated films - minimal effort, high return on time investment. Disney, Dreamworks, etc are always making cartoons and looking for a big name.
4. Commercial voice-over work (a large percentage of the voices on TV are peeps in TV/movies)
5. Become a national spokesperson for a big event
6. TV guest show appearances...hello, Brad Pitt even showed up on Friends.
Vince is supposed to be huge. If scrubs can always find consistent work, then Vince can too. The show is creating a bit of drama where there shouldn't be any.

@borat, ditto on the hot girlfriend thing. That was an amusing storyline and they dumped it for Turtle being desperate and lonely. Lame...at least mention why it ended.

its only been like a week or so (i figure) since they found out they were flat broke and that was the same day as Arie told them they could only do shit movies until someone saw the film.
Again my point was that Vince didnt want work until the movie was done. My expectation is the next episode he will get offered a movie, if it even comes up. Getting into Cannes was all they needed (pronounced caane not Kannes like they kept saying last night).
I agree that its extra drama but its not internally inconsistent.

I saw the show again. I am amazed at the casting on this show. Dennis Hopper and his Entourage. Lisa Rinna who was terrific and played totally against type. That scene where Drama and Turtle meet Lisa and that fat chick is priceless.

I thought the "hot girlfriend" was more or less assumed to be over after Turtle dropped her home and got the "looks" from her father. I really didn't expect it to continue, myself.

Holy crap! Was that Colleen Camp playing Lisa Rinna's rimjob-loving friend??? Considering the last movie I saw her in was "Die Hard With a Vengeance", I barely recognized her!!!

Did no one notice that the game they were showing was at least 2 years old?
The penalty-kick taker, Ruud Van Nistelrooy hasn't played there since 2004/5.
I guess Dennis Hopper was right when he said no one has a clue about football, err, soccer.

I've got to disagree with everyone who's saying it's not realistic for Vince to be broke. He's done three movies that we know of:
1. Head On: About the exact equivalent to "Into the Blue" (same leading lady even)
2. Queens Blvd.: A low budget indie somewhere between "Buffalo '66" and "Memento" probably
3. Aquaman: Basically just like Spiderman
Put all that together and Vince would be some combination of Paul Walker, Vincent Gallo, Guy Pearce, and Tobey Maguire. None of those guys are even close to A list and other than Maguire and his Spiderman roles they all have some trouble getting decent work. He also wouldn't be allowed to do anything related to Aquaman (commercials, foreign appearances, etc.) because of his falling out with that studio. Put all of that on top of the fact that he has a bit of a public image problem (QB press conference, strip club brawl, semi-home wrecker, and studio alienation) and he is probably regarded as a bit of a loose cannon in the industry. The tipping point is Medellin, he has his name all over it (owner, producer, actor) if it bombs he can probably kiss the A list (and maybe B and C) goodbye for the near future. If it does well in any way he'll probably be move'n on up.

One more question: Now that Eric decided to go back on that deal to sell Harvey the film before Cannes (check out the title of the next episode), how many times can he fuck Weingold before it comes back to bite the boys on the ass?

Am I the only one who has realized that this show is very predictable to the extent that we all know Vince will succeed no matter what? It wouldn't be much of a dream life if he wasn't raking in piles of cash, and the point of the show is that everyone wants to be Vince. Not that I have any problem with this predictability; I'm always wondering how Vince will succeed after such and such a set back. But people who think that there's any possibility that he will fail need to rethink their attitude towards the show.
