(S01E06) This week finds Jay and Tyler back in New York, Will trying to track down Maya's killer, and the FBI still a step behind as Marlow heads to Boston. It was a crazy, fast paced episode that gave a lot of answers, but there was also that nagging little question in the back of my head. Holy smokes, only two episodes left? Are they going to be able to wrap all of this up? We'll see, but for now, let's talk about "The Trader."

Following up on the clue they found in Will's locker, Jay and Tyler are in New York looking for Derek Sellers. and Three Continents Investing. The company was a front, but luckily the offices haven't been cleaned out. It has only been four days since the Drexler bombing, so I guess that makes sense. With a conspiracy this deep, I'm sure there are lots of locations to clean up. The leftover stock ticker tapes point them back to Holloway insurance, the company that Carlton mentioned after the bombing.

That leads to an interesting meeting/kidnapping involving one Eddie Hahn (Tyler Labine, Invasion). The fact that their research on who profited from the bombing pointed back to Carlton didn't surprise me. He seemed a likely suspect early on. What came of that knowledge was a bit odd though. Tyler made a good point asking why would his father tell them about Holloway if he was involved in it. He meets with Carlton and gets to the bottom of things as he gets him to admit that he knew about the Drexler, and did in fact set his son up to die. Yikes.

I can only guess that, much like Will, Carlton got mixed up a little deeper in things than he could handle. He didn't have the ability to stop the Drexler bombing, but now that Tyler is alive and on the run, he's not going out of his way to finish the job either. He's done the minimum that he has to for the conspiracy to not obviously cross them, but he's clearly not on the same page. He had to call them in when he was initially contacted because he knew that he was being watched. And as Will found out, those involved in the conspiracy have tremendous access. We also got a name for the mystery Homeland Security guy, Jack. I'm not sure what the point of not giving up the name until now was, but there it is.

Meanwhile, Will was making some time. He started out in Deer Harbor, finding out that the key was missing. Of course someone was waiting upstairs. It was an exciting fight scene, and made for a great opening to the episode, but am I the only one that questioned the laser sight on a taser? I'm assuming that his threat of "Tell him I'm coming." was meant for Joseph. That led him back to the library in Boston, where his stash of passports, weapons, and info was missing.

When Will went to meet with Jimmy I was assuming he was after more faked documents, since Tyler and Jay took off with his passport collection. The little arsenal in the trunk came as quite a surprise, but in retrospect it makes a lot of sense. Will truly has gone rogue as far as the conspiracy is concerned and is now bent on revenge. Something that became very clear when he met with Alex.

She did shed a little light on just how it is that Will could go through with setting up his friends. It's pretty clear now that he had no idea what the plan was until it was far too late to back out. Much as Alex has no idea why it is that she is married to some old guy. I get the feeling that she isn't going to have the same moral qualms with disposing of him that Will did with Tyler and Jay though. I did find it strange that a group so built around secrets seems to have let the various operatives fraternize to some degree. Maybe they met in training, but it's pretty clear now that it wasn't during the "Don't bring a knife to a gun fight." seminar. The torture scene was a bit grisly. Thumbs in the bullet holes? That just can't feel good. Should the show somehow manage a second season I would welcome the return of a pissed off Alex.

There were some interesting events around the FBI team this week as well. I'm not sure why we were shown the bullet wounds in Agent Chambers' back, but that couldn't have been an accident, so it is something to keep in mind. When Borjes ran into a wall trying to look up the identity of the escapee from last week, I thought all signs pointed to undercover agent. I think that gives us a clue as to just what this group is up to. At this point I'm looking at it as something of an anti-government militia. The difference here is that this militia started out from a position of great wealth and well connected power. So rather than random terrorist attacks, they are trying to invoke their changes from the inside. Cause the problem that they can use to implement their solution through their positions. Of course, that doesn't explain why the painting is so important, but it's a start.

There wasn't a lot of new information in Marlow's trip to Boston, but it did serve a purpose. She now has solid proof that Will is alive and well, and this puts her one step closer to buying into the idea that Jay and Tyler really are innocent and there are bigger fish to fry. I still think that at some point things are going to turn and the FBI will be working with the boys to try and find who was behind it all.

Overall, another good episode. The series is better than I thought it would be initially. I am worried that the short order of just eight episodes might make for an abrupt ending to the story, but it's been a fun ride so far, so I plan on seeing it through.
