Warning! Gigantic spoiler ahead for Rescue Me. Don't read any further if you haven't watched the most recent episode.
Star and producer Denis Leary has not made a fan of his longtime co-star Jack McGee. The two used to be close but in the past couple of years (McGee says) that Leary has barely spoken to him. But that probably isn't going to be a problem anymore since...
Like I said, a major spoiler after the jump, so don't read on if you don't want to be, um, spoiled.
McGee's charater, firehouse chief Jerry Reilly, shot and killed himself at the end of last night's episode. And McGee isn't happy with how the character has been treated, and sees no reason why the character had to end this way. He's also ticked at Leary because he didn't break the news to him personally, saying, "he handled it like a mutt." Whatever that means.
Leary's response? He doesn't deal with the actors.
"It's hard enough to deal with the actors when I'm acting with them...It's amazing to me that actors can think that the end is not going to be around the corner."

There's extensive coverage of this over at Television Without Pity, where they've posted an interview Matt Stoller Zeitz of the New York Times did with McGee and with Leary's partner Peter Tolan:

I guess Jerry won't be coming back as one of Tommy's ghosts, huh?

I've gotta say I don't much like the was that characters are gotten rid of on this show. I just started watching two weeks ago, and I've seen the entire series up to this point. Laura is the other one that bugged me. The way Franco was at the end of season 2 and then not even a mention of her since then? I think it kinda sucks.

I've got to be frank with all the viewers. This show was made to have "Uncle Teddy" didn't have to pull the trigger. "Johnny" didn't have to die. But they did and it's moments like that that make me keep watching the show. I love the show and ALL of it's characters'. Jack McGee was a great character however his life was going nowhere. I don't blame him. End the suffering. Just wait til the end, I will bet you Denis writes himself off.
Who wants to put they're money in the can?
