(S01E07) Well, speak of the devil. Last episode I was wishing for Jesse Jo to pop in and drop his Southern-style of sass all over the place. Sadly, he was nowhere to be found. But this episode opens with Jesse Jo in rare form. He's having Nikki tease up his wig collection to keep her mind off of Cliff, when Cliff himself appears at the door. He asks if he can speak to Nikki, and Jesse tells him, "I wuz wonderin' what you'd look like with a round of buckshot in your narrow behind." Zing!
With only one more episode left, possibly for the entire series, things are starting to fall into place. At least, they're seeming to. Cliff having an affair with Eddie's mom, Skip and Maria conspiring to hide the facts about something. Cliff growing darker by the minute. They'll have to fasttrack all these mysteries in order to wrap it all up by next week.
It's definitely been getting darker though. Remember how light and humorous some of the earlier episodes were? In fact, even Johnny used to make jokes. Now everyone is suspicious of each other, nobody's really happy, and even the jocular and light-hearted Bob seems depressed. Heck, even the drunk, skirt-chasing Skip has a gun and Eddie's police case file in his desk drawer. I guess they figure the best way to add a little levity to the situation is a big show with drag queens, featuring you know who.
Seeing Jesse Jo and his posse of drag queens threaten Cliff was the best thing about this episode. Personally, it would have been pretty satisfying to see him kick Cliff's ass with those stiletto heels on. He's had it coming for a long time now. But with everything going on now, I'm not sure who to direct my dislike at ... should it be Cliff? What about the devious Maria and her ulterior motives? Or, is Greta hiding something in this suspicious new friendship with Liza? Maybe I'll just devote a slight bit to each one of 'em.
I never thought they'd bring everyone back together by having Jesse Jo lipsync to a Patsy Cline song, though. It has Nikki in a good mood, Johnny and Greta kissing and making up, and even Cliff's mom apparently reflecting on her situation with Bob. Way to bring it home, JJ. That song even helped Nikki grow a backbone and give it to Cliff just like she should have in the last episode.
So, it's a bit of a cliffhanger at the ending of this episode. First off, Maria sends Skip a video of him planting the suicide gun in Eddie's hand, Tess finds Cliff hot and heavy in bed with Maria, Johnny's mom drunkenly tells Bob she "hasn't done anything" with her life (ouch, poor Bob), and Johnny finds a video of Liza in bed with Eddie. Seems like almost everyone had some sort of motive to whack someone else on the show. We'll see how it all ends up next Wednesday.
