Stargate direct-to-DVD movies delayed until 2008

Stargate: Ark of Truth has been pushed back until 2008Those of you who are suffering from extreme Stargate SG-1 withdrawal are not going to be happy with the news I am about to deliver. According to a report on Gateworld Stargate: Ark of Truth, which had originally been scheduled for release this fall, has now been pushed back until the first half of 2008. If that makes you unhappy then the announcement that the second film, Stargate: Continuum has been pushed back as well is going to downright make you depressed.

No reason was given as to why the special-effects laden Ark of Truth has been delayed since the film is now in post-production.. My guess is the special-effects that are . . . um . . . laden about in the movie. Once released, the film will wrap-up the two-year Ori story arc that was left unresolved in the somewhat bland SG-1 series finale that aired last week. Later in the year Stargate: Continuum, which has just completed principal photography, will deal with missing teammates Teal'c and Vala and a timeline gone haywire (don't they always do that).

Rumors are afoot that, if the movies are successful once released, more will be developed. According to an entry in actor Michael Shank's (Daniel Jackson) blog, MGM is hopeful that they can release two Stargate SG-1 movies a year.
