According to Jim is getting one more season. No, seriously.TV Guide is reporting that ABC has suddenly renewed the sitcom for another 18 episodes. No word on why. The sitcom wasn't on the network's fall schedule, so everyone presumed it was canceled and ABC Entertainment President even alluded to that possibility.
Did anyone even make a stink about According to Jim not returning? I've heard about a lot of fan efforts to bring back shows, but I'm pretty sure I didn't hear anything about resurrecting According to Jim.
*Apparently Courtney Thorne-Smith is pregnant. Maybe they've decided to add another member to the family.

NOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO!!!!!!
Out of all the shows to bring back why?! I think they realized that Cavemen is doomed and need filler. 18 episodes?!?! Why not like 6? Are there any storylines that need to be closed?!

This is sick. WTF is wrong with television that unwatchable dreck like According to Jim and How I Met Your Mother get renewals, yet quality sitcoms disappear (Andy Barker, Arrested Development) and great shows get sh!tcanned (Veronica)?

Here's my list of 10 reasons why it's good that "According to Jim" was renewed:
1. Because we may get around to watching it someday. And if that ever happens, maybe we'll discover it's great!
2. It clears out the schedule so there won't be too many things we actually DO want to watch on during the same time period.
3. That actress from "Melrose Place" and the other one who's, what, the sister-in-law? Totally cute.
4. That one other guy looks just like Drew Carey, or maybe Jim Gaffigan. So he must be funny, right?
5. Jim's brother, John -- now, that guy was great. Hey, let's rent "Animal House"!
6. As long as Jim's working, no more fake Blues Brothers tours.
7. It's important to have some inoffensive family tripe to park the kids in front of once in a while. And no way do you want to explain the jokes on "Two and a Half Men."
8. It's important for late-night comedy writers to have an instantly recognizable "bad sitcom" reference. "Hey, you know the worst part of Paris Hilton's jail experience? The TV was always tuned to 'According to Jim'!"
9. Like "Gilligan's Island" or "Three's Company" today, when the show is rebroadcast 20 years from now on Holographic TVLand, it'll seem like a forgotten classic.
10. No, really, how do you know it's NOT funny?

I think ABC realized that with no sitcoms returning in the fall they would be in a pickle for filler if one of the new sitcoms tanks.

What is wrong with people that they still have to bitch about Arrested Development? Here's a hint Fox gave the show 3 years to grow and it didn't. NO ONE WATCHED IT! it's not like it was a cheap show to watch, it wasn't close. VM had the same problem... NO ONE WATCHED! Now it can be agrued that no one watched The CW and that's why they are introducing a lot of reality show. Fox in the beginning did the same thing and now they have several good shows and few, if any (besides AI) reality shows.

Hey, it's ABC. At least one of their new comedy offerings will be gone in a couple of weeks.
Why do I get the feeling Jim will be taking over Samantha Who?'s timeslot come october?

I'm fine with it as long as George Lopez stays dead and gone.

Actually I prefer George Lopez to According to Jim. I wouldn't mind if George Lopez came back for one more season.
Aside from that I'm in such a state of shock that they would renew shows that really need to die, but cancel awesome shows like Firefly (yeah it's been a while, but come on, it's Firefly) , The Class, and Veronica Mars.

I actually like According to Jim and watch reruns every night while I cook dinner. It's a fun show, and we don't have many of those any more. Also, I love How I Met Your Mother.

You know, over on the next channel, Fox's New Amsterdam sounds absolutely exciting to me - I am a fan of scifi and when I used to have cable, would watch the scifi programs for the whole summer. Shucks, I can't wait for New Amsterdam to hit my screen. And the immortal guy is a dish.

This show really isn't that bad. I stopped watching it because I'm not home when it airs and I don't do the DVR thing.
Of all the sitcoms on TV, at least this one is watchable.

You people are freaks.
How many "husband does dumb thing, wife gets pissed" sitcoms do we need to have?! It's the same bullshit week in and week out. They need to end and they need to end now.

I have always liked this show. It is a pretty decent family sitcom (of which there aren't anymore). But it also gives you good laughs. I think that According to Jim, Scrubs, Earl, and The Office are the only sitcoms worth watching anymore.
The networks need to be working on something that can be the "New Friends, Seinfeld, Cheers, or Frasier" A show that is not only funny, but is destined to be a classic. I think The Office is the only thing close to filling their shoes, but not all find it funny.

David (#5): I'm SO tired of hearing people talk about how we should shut up about Arrested Development and Veronica Mars because they had their chance and NO ONE watched them.
Guess what? A lot of people watched AND loved those shows. Sure, not as many people watched them as say... America's Got Talent. But don't you think that the rest of us deserve tv shows that we like too?
Sorry to be completely off topic, but come on. We can't help it that the majority of America likes to watch crap.
