(S04E02) I don't really have any typical phobias like claustrophobia, spiders, snakes, or clowns. So, I am curious about what effect Brandon's ability would have on me. I don't think I would really want to find out. I had some mixed feelings about the end of this episode, but I don't want to get ahead of myself. So, let's start at the beginning.Diana
I was glad that she asked whether or not she were being hired because she liked foreign films because I was sure as hell going to ask if she hadn't. I don't really care for the new director, and I think she is being poised to be Tom's new love interest. So, anyway, Diana is back, miraculously reinstated as an agent, even though it is clear that she only wants to find her sister. But we suspend our disbelief because we love, right?
The big question now is when Diana's boyfriend will return with Maia.
Tom
Tom finally, at Meghan's urging, decides to let Alana go. That's too bad because I was really hoping he was going to put on a three-piece suit and concentrate on a penny really hard. Not too much going on here, otherwise. He is going to flip when he finds out about Kyle's new ability though...
Shawn
He is back to healing people. Hey, Shawn, if your dippy brother gets sick when he takes the promicin, you can just heal him, right? What? Didn't think of that? I have a friend who went to high school with the actor, and in case you are wondering, he is a very nice person in real life, too. Shawn and Kyle have switched allegiances now, with Shawn no longer supporting Jordan or promicin. I wonder if Shawn will become the leader of the anti-promicin group-- it would just take Danny dying to push him to make that move.
Kyle
When my best friend and I saw Cassie say that she is Kyle's ability, we both started laughing out loud. My friend said, "This is why we watch this show!" So, okay, I was a little wrong about her being a love object for Kyle, but this is much more interesting, n'est-ce pas? So, if Kyle is going to be the one with the visions of Jordan's prophecy, then I suppose technically, they are going to come through her? Or she is going to be his muse? She does seem to point him toward ideas he has already half-formed. She is sort of his very own, sexy, red-headed Jiminy Cricket.
Isabelle
Did anybody else believe them when they told Isabelle that she now has a fatal allergy to promicin? If they had told me that, the first thing I would have done was made sure I got a hold of some somehow. Why else would they tell her that unless it was patently untrue? That's right, go ahead, let her out. Smart move.
Back to Brandon
Did anybody else have mixed feelings about them curing an autistic boy? I have a son with Asperger's Syndrome, and I wouldn't change a thing about him. However, if I had a son who was as severely locked inside himself as Brandon, I might have a different opinion. I don't know -- any parents of autistic children out there want to weigh in?

First of all...LOVE the "Somewhere In Time" reference. (Although he didn't actually concentrate on a penny, how can you not appreciate the ref.)
I believe that Shawn had already tried to save someone who was dying due to the unlucky 50% promicin shot, and he was unsuccessful.

no matter what they come up with Kyle's power is stupid.

Two thought that stand out in my mind about this episode.
1.(me being nit picky about special effects), but Isa's "blood" looked like red Kool-Aid (it "moved" like water).
2. Then on the same thought of water, what if the "shot" that Shawn gave Danny was not really promicin?
The whole muse thing was kinda of a neat idea, and I look forward to see what they are going to do with it.

The show is still better than last year. I hated last season.
And why are there new directors every year? Do the old actors quit or are they fired?
And the whole Isabelle storyline is a joke. Let's let out this fully grown baby who is pure evil. That sounds good to me too!

"Maia" is still listed as a permanent cast member in the opening credits, so I'm optimistic that she'll be back.

maia has to come back, shes one of the better characters on the show.
shawn's "ability" is terrible. it might be even worse than ali larter's "ability" on heroes. god, i hate her.
isabelle totally still has her powers. shes just like carnage in the spiderman series. shes biding her time (like now, when they transfer her to a less secure facility) and then is going to break out. hopefully she wont kill everyone in sight like carnage but i think the analogy holds. she was way too powerful to just become powerless.

I was suprised about Kyle's power and for the first time, truly intrigued. When we first met Miss Red-Head, I thought she was a 4400 who would tell him what his power was. Then I thought he had the ability to see the dead. Then she tells him he's a Shaman, and I thought, "She's a looney!" To find out she WAS his ability peeks my interest. I have no idea how this will unfold, whether she is his inner voice, whether she's an external influence, whether she is a physical manifestation of future events or something else entirely.
Regarding Isabelle - I'm sure hoping the writers are going to keep her powers gone, because if not, whoever has written her current storyline needs to be fired. Manuvering her into a low-security facility, blandly telling her if she took promiacine she'd die and her powers were gone forever... As it stands, her neutralized-threat-stance is being renegotiated in an extremely clumsy manner. Introduce a new threat or get creative in how to restore Isabelle's scariness.

I didn't Shawn could heal people who were dying from taking promicin? I thought the 4400 secretary chick from last season took it at the end of the season and she died from it and Shawn couldn't heal her. Sent him over the edge because wasn't part of the cheerleading squad for her to take it?
Thought maybe that is my Shawn was apprehensive about his brother taking it - he wouldn't be able to heal him if he was one of the unfortunate 50%.
Maybe I am wrong.

royally screwed up comment 8 - retyping it:

I have a kid with Asperger's, too. I feel the same was you do (so does he). Can't imagine what it's like to have a classic autistic. Not at all cool to leave the mom in the dark. 50% chance of death?

I'm not the parent of, well, any kind of a child, so I can't speak from that perspective, but I didn't see them curing Brandon of autism as a way to rid him of the autism - it was something they did to help him learn to control his ability so he wasn't accidentally scaring the living daylights out of people.
If they had taken an autistic kid to Shawn to be cured simply because they didn't want an autistic kid, I dunno - I guess I could understand the desire to do that, but I can also see why it might be disturbing to some people. But I didn't feel like the episode was demeaning autistic kids or implying that autistic children are somehow defective - it was done as a safety measure to keep him from being too dangerous to live at home, with his family. YMMV

I can't quite place the actor who played Mr. Powell (the autistic child's father). Does anyone know who he is?

yes, shawn did try to heal someone who took promicin (devon) and it didn't work. i believe it was in the last or second to last ep. of season 3.
i had a feeling that cassie was kyle's ability as soon as she said he was the shaman.
isabelle...ehh, i wish they would've killed her off @ the end of last season.
hope jordan's in next week's episode!

If they were just going to give the autistic kid the inhibitor, why was it necessary to change him?

I think maybe Isabelle's blood will kill those who take Promicin and get abilities. That was what they tested for. Her blood made the Promicin in the first place. The government dark suits want to eliminate all those who get abilities and Isabelle will be how they try to do.

So, if that girl is Kyle's ability isn't it possible she is the one who shot Collier?
Also, does anyone else think Cassie looks an awful lot like Diana's sister April?
