How does VeohTV stack up?

VeohTV3Now that VeohTV beta's been out for a few days, I've had a chance to take it for a spin (thanks to our friends at NewTeeVee).

And while I was a bit skeptical at first that there would be much value in watching web video in a standalone, full screen application, there are a few things that VeohTV does very very right.

First off, it feature something I've been waiting for: a single interface where you can get watch full length streaming episodes of network television programs. The videos are coming straight from the network sites, with commercials intact, so hopefully VeohTV won't get in trouble for letting you watch the TV shows without actually visiting the network web site.

ABC is nowhere to be seen, but CBS, NBC, Fox, and the CW are all represented, (and PBS is underrepresented with just a little Nova content).

You can also search multiple online video sites, including YouTube and Daily Motion for videos of your choice. And there are pre-configured channels for tuning into to popular feeds like Rocketboom.

There are still some areas that could use tweaking. When I tried to watch VeohTV in full screen on my media center PC, various clicks with my Snapstream Firefly remote control caused the program to leave full screen mode and I kept having to grab the mouse to enter commands. But that's just becuase I'm too lazy to right an XML file with the correct commands for our remote.

Oh yeah, and VeohTV doesn't work with Mac or Linux yet.

If you'd rather use VeohTV on your desktop or notebook, there's also an "interactive" mode that lets you watch videos while viewing related content from sites like Flickr and Del.ici.ous.
