TV Obits: Cohen, Friendly, Demarest, De Santis

  • Kathie Lee Gifford, Claudia CohenClaudia Cohen: She was one of the more famous gossip columnists, and had a regular spot on both Live with Regis and Kathie Lee and Live with Regis and Kelly, as well guest spots on Curb Your Enthusiasm and ESPN. She got her start writing for The New York Post also wrote the "I, Claudia" column for The New York Daily News. Cohen died last Saturday of complications from stomach cancer that was first diagnosed six years ago.
  • Ed Friendly: He was a veteran TV exec who co-created the classic 60s variety show Laugh-In and produced Little House on the Prairie and several specials. He was also executive producer of Turn On, a 1969 variety show that is one of the few TV series to last only one episode. He died last Sunday of cancer at age 85.

  • Jim Demarest: He starred in the classic Hawaiian TV show Checkers & Pogo. He also guest starred on several episodes of Hawaii Five-O and Magnum, P.I. He died in Chicago at age 80.

  • Tony De Santis: The veteran actor and theater founder was a regular on the 80s series Street Legal and guest starred on several shows, including Forever Knight, Soul Food, Traders, 1-800-Missing, Robocop, Matrix, Friday the 13th, Night Heat, Sue Thomas, F.B. Eye, and many others, as well as the movies Flashdance, Narc, The Believers, and Short Circuit 2. He died of cancer at age 93.
