Several American Idol alumni, such as Fantasia and Diana DeGarmo, have taken their musical talents to the Broadway stage. But now, Idolmania has actually inspired an original Off-Broadway show called Idol: The Musical. The story revolves around a group of outcasts that idolizes Clay Aiken.According to press notes, the show is described as "a satirical musical comedy that focuses on the outrageous and delusional fan base of the hit television show."
As one of American Idol's delusional fans, I personally would rather see Clay Aiken appear on Broadway. I'm not a hardcore Claymate or anything, but I truly think Clay was born to play the part of Peter Pan.
As for Idol:The Musical, the show will begin previews on July 5, 2007, at the 45th Street Theatre. Ticket information is not yet available.

Linn,
Only flaw in your logic is that in the musical staging of PETER PAN, the role of Peter is written for a woman.
Clay should play characters like Pippin or Joseph (with his amazing technicolor fanclub!)

Clay isn't going to be IN the play. The play is ABOUT him.
He's way too busy to do broadway. The summer tour kicks off July 4th.

Not that Clay is 'Better suited' for Broadway because I think he could do anything he tried, but Broadway would really make him stand-out. I doubt he'll ever be in the unemployment line no matter what he does.

Clay in Jekyll and Hyde singing This is the Moment. He won a competition in Raleigh with that song. I've seen the Broadway play a couple of times and Clay's version is beyond awesome.

I have actually been to a Clay concert and met Clay fans and they seem like wonderfully amazing people. Charming, sweet, funny down to earth, etc. They support Clay like so many other fan groups support their celebrities. To me Clay fans aren't even close to Jimmy Buffet Fans. Talk about completey CRAZY FANS! Now can you see Buffet as a play. The whole audience would be Drunk. I love Buffet concerts, cuz people are dress in Buffet Gear and you'll even see some people with parrots on their heads or I went to a few Grateful Dead concerts and that was WILD!
I personally think it's a compliment that there is a play written Clay and his fans. I just think it's awesome!
I would LOVE to see this play. I'm sure I would be laughing my ass off.

Happy to hear you are a fan of Clay's, but true Clay-fans never apologze. No need to feel embarrassed, just go for it!
You will never be alone in Clay Nation.
As to Peter Pan-- don't think so. Hardly the impish cutie anymore. If you want to see a grown-up man with a spectacular voice, go see him in concert. He is funny and he he owns that stage. His tour starts in July.

Clay is wonderful, both as a great talent and a human being. A play about him sounds like great fun. Gosh, he's a legend already.

What an honour...to have a play off Broadway all about fans devotion ! I remember the movie "I WANT TO HOLD YOUR HAND" about some fans devotion to the BEATLES!
This play is getting a lot of good reviews & good press for Clay Aiken.
If you want to see just how much Clay Aiken has grown , be sure and attend one of his concerts where he not only showcases his 'pipes of perfection' , but entertains the socks off of his audiance with is hilarious wit leaving them wanting more !!! Clay has "IT" in spades!

I'm one of Clay's "enthusiastic" fans and would love to see this play!
I've seen him in concert in Vegas and Dallas, and he deserves his own Broadway (or off-Broadway) show, as well.

Well, I saw the show in Syracuse at the Civic Center. Although I thought the one geeky piano player character was funny, I thought the show was very bad on the whole. I couldn't hear the actors. One of them had a British accent which made her impossible to understand. I didn't like any of the music. I have heard other music by the composer that I loved, but I didn't like any of the music for this show. The set was pretty bad too. I hope they improve it when it moves to NYC. I find it to be horribly inappropriate for younger kids as their is underage drinking and suggestions of masturbation. Not the mention the kid who wants to be a stripper and starts actually stripping on the stage. This show is advertised to kids and I think parents should know what they are taking their kids to. This show isn't really about Clay Aiken. He happens to be the Idol star that they worship, but the show is about the very messed up kids. I had to actually force my date to stay through the intermission. We both wanted to leave so we wouldn't have to watch the second half.
