Jerry MathersLet's begin this week's column with another letter from a reader in need.

Howard Kotarski writes ...

"Hi, I am a transplanted NYer who now lives in Tx. I moved in 79, and was a NYPD officer until the layoffs, What I would like to know is what Fire House, and where is it located that Rescue Me is filmed at. It all looks real, or is it a closed Station used for Movies and TV. Also could you advise me the same for the old 3rd watch TV series, for both the PD and FD that were across the street from each othe. I presently am a Deputy Sheriff in Ft. Worth Tx, and still in love with NY. Thank you, Howard K"

Well Howard, Rescue Me uses a number of locations in New York city including Engine 91 at 244 E. 111th St (bet. 2nd & 3rd Ave), Engine 91 at 36 Dyckman St and FDNY Firehouse at 222 E. 2nd St.

As for Third Watch, the firehouse for that show was the Long Island City Firehouse for FDNY Engine 258/Ladder 115. It is an active firehouse on 47th Avenue in Long Island City, Queens. Across the street is the 108th precinct at 5-47 50th Ave.

I'm not a New Yorker, so you readers in the Big Apple can feel free to add or correct any information (as if you needed an invitation.

On to this week's question ...

In the TV-movie pilot Still the Beaver, why did Beaver Cleaver's wife leave the country giving him the kids to raise by himself?

And in only fifteen minutes, Jenni brought home the correct answer. The Beav's ex-wife couldn't get into vet school in the US, so she left to study abroad. Way to go, Jenni!
