According to the entertainment reporter over at Fox News, actor Bradley Whitford "almost" got the role as the new Assistant District Attorney on Law & Order. Sam Waterston is vacating that position to play the District Attorney, now that actor Fred Thompson is leaving the show to run for president.Everybody got that? Good.
The bottom line is that Whitford was seriously being considered for the new ADA role, but he came with too big of a price tag. He lives in LA, but L&O is taped in New York, so that would be a big bill for travel for NBC. Obviously, Whitford can't move his family to NYC because his wife, Jane Kaczmarek, is also a working actor. Hopefully we'll see Whitford on something else real soon... maybe he could somehow reprise his role on ER.

Now that would have been a smart move on the part of NBC. Whitford is well-known enough to have actually brought some viewers to the show. What I think would really shake this show up is if they reversed their years-log trend of having a man as lead ADA and a woman as his co-counsel. I still think they should bring back Bebe Neuwirth, then dump Alana de la Garza, and bring in a young-ish man to replace her. That would make L&O much more interesting.

Reporting something from Foxnews not good journalism. It's probably made up.

Say what?
I got the 2nd season of ER on DVD and honestly - I did not remember Whitford having a role there. It's been 12 years since he played that role for two (!) episodes.
If you ask me he should rather do something else than that.
I really hope they get some fresh and young new castmembers on ER because that 3lbs guy needs counterparts he can rub himself on. Don't really like him but honestly - he's better than Dr. Romano, that guy was just a pain in the ass.

That would have been a great 'get' for NBC. Too bad they didn't grab it.

I'd love to see Bradley Whitford on something big where he can be successful.
He is one of my favorites, probably because of his stroke-of-genius role on TWW. He was the one bright spot on Studio 60, too, so he can really bring something powerful to whatever he does.

Bash, Bradley was on a first season episode of 'ER' entitled 'Love's Labor Lost'. It was one of the best episodes of the freshman season and won a number of Emmy awards.

I say put two women in there. It'll give it a Charlie's Angels vibe.

I think I would rather they had cancelled the show without warning than watch it become another victim of Bradley Whitford. Well, actually, if he were on regularly I would have stopped watching.

This is a huge loss for NBC. Brad is great! He would have breathed new life into L&O. I hope we'll see him in something else very soon.
