Lost creators Damon Lindelof and Carlton Cuse recently made an appearance at a Promax/BDA conference where they made some promises about the series ending and provided some insight on extras they have planned for next season.First of all, the two promising fans that they will not give the series a "murky" ending, like what happened with this week's series finale of The Sopranos. They said they will answer questions and explain the island's mysteries over the next 48 episodes.
They're not guaranteeing you're going to have every single question answered, however. Both producers say the internet fan audience has created a lot of theories and picked out a lot of still images from the series that may never be resolved (i.e., is that a Dharma symbol on a shark?!?). Cuse said, "I'm not sure there is an ending that will satisfy everyone."
Two more notes of interest from their appearance:
Cuse and Lindelof also revealed that, to keep the audience's attention until Lost returns next February, they're going to roll out some "mobisodes" featuring the whole cast. The 90-second episodes will first appear on Verizon Wireless and then on ABC.com, but they're not going to advance the entire plot in any way. They will, however, include the main cast members and not be some crap with unknown other castaways.
And speaking of other castaways... both Lindelof and Cuse said that adding Paolo and Nikki to the cast last season was a mistake. They said they realized it even before the fans started hating the duo. There was supposed to be a lot more of Paolo and Nikki in the last season, but they ended up getting cut because they just didn't fit correctly in the series. Cuse said, "We buried them alive. OK, you guys don't like Nikki and Paolo, there."

RIP Nikki & Paulo.
As long as they explain how Jack got so screwed up, I'll be satisfied.

Gordy you are easily pleased.
There is no way, NO WAAAAAAAAYYY that the Lost creators will ever please people, there are too many questions that they don't even know the answers too, aka the numbers.

im sure they will read the boards and if they find something thats better than what the came up with, they'll incorporate (i.e. steal - but a good steal) the idea and put it in the show. they have given themselves all the latitude they need so they can basically do anything. its much harder (imo) to work inside a specific framework than to tie up your own lose ends however you please.

What "Lost" viewers are asking for and the ending to "The Sopranos" are two entirely different things.
With "The Sopranos," we already knew what had gone on up till then. Although the show left some plot points up to the imagination (such as what happened to the Russian), it was clear who the characters were, what kind of world they lived in, and why they behaved the way they did. All the ending left out was what, if anything, would happen next.
But the answers to the "mysteries" of "Lost" are necessary to understand everything that's happened on the show since the beginning. The properties of the island, the nature of the smoke monster (and Jacob), what the Dharma Initiative was really trying to do, the whole truth behind the Others, possible changes in the time line, the hidden motivations of various characters, and the underlying metaphysical reason (if any) that the castaways ended up on the island in the first place -- all these and more are necessary to truly make sense of all the events we've already put so much time into watching. That's why it's so important for the writers to have a coherent plan for answering these questions by the end. (And why it would be a really good idea for them to have those answers worked out in their own heads already.)
Because this is the way "Lost" is set up, it was really satisfying to get at least partial answers to some of those questions toward the end of this last season. If the writers can keep this continue this way over the coming seasons, and have everything make sense by the end, then the viewers will be happy. Remember, Damon and Carlton: This is the world you have chosen.

I expect them to leave us with a great revelation and lots of questions about certain parts of the story. I don' have to get EVERY answer as long as the delivery is convincing and the final answer is something I can suspend my disbelief to (is this a correct use of that term? *shrug* just read the suspend of disbelief article on wikipedia ^^;). That's all I ask.
If they just go "It was al nanobots" I'll be angry ;-)

They have explained the numbers David. They're the base integers in the Valenzetti Equation that serve to predict the end of the world. Dharma was setup to research these numbers and attempt to change them, thus saving humanity. The numbers were first heard by both Russeau and Hurley's hospital friend being broadcast from the island in, what can be assumed as, a constant report to mainland-Dharma on their progress.

The DHARMA Shark (also known as "Ezra James Sharkington") was resolved. Back at the beginning of Season 3, it was explained by Juliet to Jack that the Hydra station aquarium could be flooded and sharks and dolphins brought in for research. In addition, on the blast door map, it mentions a "Carcharodon carcharias selective breeding facility", which is for Great White Sharks.
Pay attention, Anna :)
