I don't know if I had a premonition, but when I watched the Hidden Palms screener last summer I predicted that the series wouldn't last long. The CW somewhat made my prediction come true earlier this week when they announced the series would wrap up sooner.Hidden Palms was first slated to be a mid-season show and 13 episodes had been ordered. During production, the show's episode number was lowered to 8 and CW decided to keep it for the summer.
The CW gave the show a good chance to gather viewers by not only airing it in its Wednesdays at 8 p.m. timeslot but by playing encores on Sundays. But to no avail, the network decided to wrap up the series as fast as possible so it could probably put a show that will gather more viewers.
In a press release, The CW announced that it would stop airing encores on Sundays and that the series would wrap up on July 4 instead of the 18. However, the network partially kept in mind the fans when making the decision as all produced episodes will air.
Here is the schedule for the rest of Palms' short season:
- June 13 at 8 p.m.: Episode 1.03 "Party Hardy"
- June 20 from 8 to 10 p.m.: Episodes 1.04 "What Liza Beneath" and 1.05 "Mulligan"
- June 27 from 8 to 10 p.m.: Episodes 1.06 "Dangerous Liaisons" and 1.07 "Stand By Your Woman"
- July 4 at 8 p.m.: Episode 1.08 (title unknown for now)
The network advertises the July 4 episode as a "season finale." However, it's highly unlikely that the series will get a second season unless fans all rally up friends and family to watch the final episodes live.

It's not a bad show at all. But it seems scripted shows have a hard time in the summer.

Great. I miss last night's episode because the power was out for nine hours, and now they decide to stop the Sunday encores. As if "The CW" had anything else worth airing.

It is my believe that everyone needs to STOP watching new shows and just buy them on DVD, because nothing stays around for any length of time. TV networks are getting out of control. This wasn't the best show in the world but because it's SUMMER leave it for the 13 shows and then bring it back next summer.

it was an ok show, I knew after one episode that it wouldnt last. What networks can't get a grip on is that there are so many more entertainment venue's for people than there were just a few years back. Networks are wondering where their ratings went but they must realize their stranglehold is gone. I have had Tivo for over 5 years and we have the the internet, cable, you tube and video games and downloadable shows at amazon, tivo and xbox live. The networks are starting with a smaller pie and getting a smaller piece. Hopefully they will wake up but I doubt it.

I agree. Why do networks create shows only to tear them down. It's the summer. The CW doesn't have anything else on. I miss the days when the CW created 4 new shows for the summer which were decent and let them play out for the duration. If you've already paid for 13 eps, don't kill them because they aren't overnight successes. That's why they're summer shows. dumba***s.

I don't know what The CW is doing now a days with cancelling show after show, this fall season is going to be mostly all new shows and most of them as predicted will be cancelled.
Fact is, The CW doesn't really have that many viewers in first place, good luck finding another Smallville, as I hear that is one of there highest rated shows and even that's low. Good Luck to there viewers, there going to need it.

I don't understand why ABC and the CW left these "midseason" dramas that had just as much promise as any other midseason show not air until summer, when they know no one will be watching. Traveler and Hidden Palms might have been more successful had they premiered in January or March.
If they just couldn't fit them into their schedules, they why not let it roll over until next year? If you remember, at the '06 upfronts NBC picked up a comedy called The Singles Table and it didn't air throughout the whole season. So they're rolling it over into the '07-'08 season instead; some Googling says that it'll premiere in January 2008. Isn't that more logical?

I guess Im getting sick and tired of all of these networks cancelling shows before they finnish out the season. I also got into "The reunion" a couple of years ago which was on fox....like Hidden Palms it was a murder/mystery type of show and it was cancelled after 13 out of the scheduled 20 episodes. They didnt even adjust it to end appropriately....so we were left wondering what exactly the ending was of the mystery...I have a feeling HP will end the same way.......I really dont care how similar/not similar it is to the OC but I wasnt ready for that to end yet either...if these networks keep cancelling my shows I swear Im just going to throw my tv out the window and not watch tv anymore at all!!!!!

INSANE.
Why bother watching a show that has no support whatsoever from their own network? It's a slap in the face to all involved with Hidden Palms -- and frankly, I'm REALLY enjoying this program. It's a LOT better than lots of the junk being aired...and just the kind of series an upstart like The CW needs to make a name for itself. And don't they take TIVO into account?? I know MANY people who are Tivo'ing the show, yet that's not part of the ratings!
At this point, who knows what's to happen, but it looks bleak. I've enjoyed the show -- no, LOVED the show -- and hope to God there could be a 2nd season, allowing HP to stabilize and find its fan base.
It's disheartening seeing a show like this be burned off during the summer when no one's watching, let alone airing the finale on July 4th!

well i think that hidden palms is a good show.I'm pissed that its getting canceled so soon. no ones ever gives shows a chance anymore. To bad they had to put this show in the summer because people have lives in the summer. Its hard to get viewers in the summer so to have almost 2 million viewers isn't bad.not to mention they barely advertised this show. it was almost like they wanted it to fail.Comment 16 is right. i just feel bad that i missed some of the shows when it was on t.v and i watched them online. Ugh I just keep getting screwed first the oc gets canceled now this..pssht. ugh and the finale is on the 4th..wow what a dumba**s. There is no way people are going to be home on the 4th!!!All i know is that i am really upset about this show and my other shows getting booted it's gonna be hard to watch another series because It'll probably just get canceled again!
P.s Michael Cassidy is so hott!! :) wow
