Okay, enough already! Personally, I'm glad that the grass roots campaign to save Jericho turned out well, and I think that the Mars candy bar campaign to save Veronica Mars is cute, but a futile attempt (at least according to show creator Rob Thomas). But, when a television studio tells you to sign a petition to save a show that the network didn't seem to really want in the first place you're going a bit too far.
The studio I'm talking about is Warner Brothers Television, and the show I'm talking about is ABC's Traveler. We actually received an email from someone over at WBTV promoting an online petition asking for a second season of the show, which has done okay since its premiere. The petition says that 8 episodes of the show aren't enough and the network should consider bringing the show back for a new season. As I write this there are 513 signatures, which is probably not enough to send to the programming wonks over at the Alphabet Network.
I can probably say the following without sounding too crazy: The reason that the grass roots campaign to save Jericho worked so well was not due the amount of nuts sent to the network. It was due to the fact executives over at CBS knew that they screwed up big time and they needed to do something to fix their error. Those of you who are trying to save Traveler are going to have to make the executives over at ABC think the same thing if you want the show to make it for another season. Put enough pressure on them so they say 'You know, we should have put this show on in the beginning of the season to give it a better chance'. An online petition that is emailed to the network is not going to do this.

I was just hoping we'd get to see the full run of these "Traveler" episodes, and that there would be some closure at the end. If it's open-ended enough for there to be a next season, then the final shows (assuming ABC has the patience--ahem, "Daybreak") will be disappointing.

This is why I wanted the Jericho thing to fail.

I watch all three of these shows, and Jericho definitely deserved to come back for another season.
Veronica Mars was also an awesome show, though it didn't really have an amazing third season until the finale which brought back Weevila and a season one cast member and started up a new mystery that looked like it was headed in the direction of picking up it's season one roots. I wouldn't be oppose to a 4th season, especially since that was the only show on the CW I watched, but I understand it is dead as a TV show. If it comes back in any other form, I'll support it.
Traveler is a great show, but if it was written to air a story that could be summed up in 8 episodes, then so be it. I'd rather it runs its course, tell its story, and end it. That's all I wanted from Day Break too, and luckily they aired all the episodes online after they cancelled it.

He-he ... it's working in getting publicity out about the series. Got TV Squad to post another note about the show, soooo... Granted a petition alone is not going to get the show renewed, but it IS generating more publicity and that may get the additional viewers to tune in to what is turning out to be a great, fun ride.
Contrary to popular belief, the series was pitched as a long-running story. One quote from Steven McPherson was that the writers/producers pitched a 2-3 year storyline. With the amount of people now involved in the storyline, I think it could really happen. The 13 episode was cut to 8 last fall and according to the creator's blog on TV Guide he spent a month rewriting the remaining 5 episodes in order to condense it down.

I still have all of these sitting unwatched on my Tivo, because I didn't want to watch it for fear that it would be cancelled and left open-ended. Are you saying I should just go ahead and delete them?

I am watching Traveler, and it is a great summer serial series. At this point, I couldn't care less whether it was renewed for a second season or not. What I do care about is resolution. I would have been fine with Jericho ending after one season if they had given some closure. Tie up all the loose ends and I'm a happy camper. There may be some slight disappointment in not seeing the characters anymore, but if you've wrapped it up, then there is nothing left for the characters to do.

You know, it wouldn't be so bad if they were running this AFTER all the Traveler eps had aired. Since a) it may get more support if people feel that there's enough open plot points to merit another season and b) less likley to backfire by giving people the impression it's in trouble and liable to be cancelled (thus stopping people picking it up due to lack of resolution problem).
Personally I'm enjoying it, if it does well and gains enough support for a second season then great, if it just exists as a mini-series then great too. 8 Episodes is a reasonable amount for a mini-series, and generally reduced order means less fillers (but then in the UK seasons tend to run between 6 and 13 eps)

Traveler has beent he best surprise of the summer season. Great show, and it's very cool that one of the leads looks like Peter Tork.

My wife and I find the Traveler very entertaining and a fun show to watch this summer. To me they should renew it to play again next summer. There are not enough scripted shows in the summer.

I was always pissed that HBO's Carnivale didn't get saved. I gave up my show saving attempts back then.

At this point I, and I'm guessing a lot of other viewers, are very hesitant to start watching these serialized shows. The odds are against them being produced to a conclusion and even when they aren't canceled after a few shows episode after episode of riddles without answers starts to tick me off. Hellow "Lost." One gets the feeling the writers have no idea what's going on either.

I guess I'm in the minority here, but I stopped watching Traveler mid-way through episode 3, and took it off my DVR list. I thought it was a bad knock-off of Prison Break (season 2), with worse writing and TERRIBLE acting.

Jericho fans sending nuts...
Veronica Mars fans sending Mars Bars...
What the hell are Traveler fans going to send, bombs?
Seriously though, having seen some episodes of Traveler it seems to me that it would work best as a miniseries... I mean, they can't keep running forever, can they?

I think I would prefer the show to end after 8 episodes - I am enjoying it so far but I cant see it as a long term show unles they turn it into something like the fugitive and they spend more time helping Cats out of trees and not finding their "one armed man"
and if you want to send them something how about roadmaps

Traveler is a great show. ABC has done very little to promote it. It's sad to see it lose to CSI reruns in the ratings.

I love Jericho ... can't get enough of it.
But I've never even heard of Veronica Mars & Traveler.
They must be shows geared to a much younger audience.

Starting out on a Traveler community on LiveJournal, some folks are planning to print out a Kerouac picture and send it to ABC.

Ditto on ABC not doing enough to promote this show. I caught the premiere, but missed the second episode. When I went to the ABC website to catch up, I discovered that they only have the pilot and the most recent week's episode online. Why would they do this? There's a good chance I (and other people with too much time on their hands) could get hooked on Traveler if I only had access to more episodes! I waited a few weeks hoping that they'd post more episodes, but they just delete the older one and only have the most recent ep available at all times. LAME!

Well, for what it's worth, here's a piece arguing for ABC to renew the show:
