Since the very first season, The Simpsons have had numerous guest stars. Some have only appeared once, while others have returned again and again. Now, with the eighteenth season recently wrapped up and no end in sight, The Simpsons have had roughly twelve billion guest stars. That number might not be accurate, but I think it's close.
I mention this because our friends at AOL (which owns TV Squad), want to know who your favorite Simpsons guest stars are. If your brain needs a bit of prodding, you can check out this list I made a year ago, but I think my fellow Simpsons fans should be able to come up with a list of actors just fine on their own.
Oh yeah, and AOL also wants to know what your favorite episode of all time is, so be sure to mention that, too.
So, start filling up the comments, folks. The most popular choices will be featured on AOL TV sometime in the near future. We'll keep you posted.

My favorite guest stars are Jon Lovitz and Albert Brooks, because they keep coming back as different characters, all of whom are funny. It's always nice to see Johnny Carson in "Krusty Gets Kancelled," too.
My favorite episode? That would have to be seasons 2 through 8.

Pamela Reed as the new next door neighbor - the divorcee who Marge goes on her Thelma & Louise trip with.
Late, great evolutionary biologist Stephen Jay Gould as himself.
Kelsey Grammer as Sideshow Bob, but the best SSB episode was when David Hyde Pierce guested as SSB's brother.
That's all I can think of!

Kelsey Grammer by far.
Favorite episode is the one where Lisa and Bart see what their life is like in the future and Homer living underwater. I laugh everytime I see Smithers say "I love boobies!". Hilarious!

Favorite Episode: You Only Move Twice (gotta love Hank Scorpio)
Favorite Guest: Phil Hartman by far.
Lionel Hutz: Uh-oh, we've drawn Judge Snyder.
Marge: Is that bad?
Lionel Hutz: Well, he's had it in for me ever since I kinda ran over his dog.
Marge: You did?
Lionel Hutz: Well replace the word "kinda" with "repeatedly" and the word "dog" with "son."

The best guest star hands down was Kelsey Grammer as Sideshow Bob.
I also agree that Albert Brooks as Scorpio was great (my fav episode).
Another great guest star was Michael Jackson (bear with me). Playing a giant white guy who was in an asylum because he thought he was Michael Jackson is brilliant. Often in later seasons guest stars became too rote, either playing themselves in a ZANY cameo or playing an annoying one or two episode character.

Favorite guest star: Absolutely has to be Kelsey Gramer as Sideshow Bob.
Favorite episode: The one where Bart keeps sideshow Bob from killing him by having him perform the entire score of HMS Pinifore.
Fave line: "Very well, I shall send you to heaven... before DISPATCHING YOU TO HELL!"
Followed closely by "Mom! I think Dad's been drugged!"

Chiming in on the Kelsey Grammer Sideshow Bob love. How can you not adore sublime hilarity of Sideshow Bob walking into rake after rake after rake groaning each time? Sheer genius.
I also 2nd the Michael Jackson guestspot too. No matter the mess he's become over the years I just adore the "Happy Birthday Lisa" song.

Hmm toughie! I agree with the other posters, I love Albert Brooks as Scorpio! Kelsey Grammer as Sideshow Bob But I tend to think of Grammer and characters by Phil Hartman as more regular cast even though I guess they really were guest stars. Ringo, Paul and Linda, George Harrison, I love the Beatles' appearances! And Keith and Mick too. John Waters was a good one. Man this is tough, Pierce Brosnan as the house robot, Michael York was good but the episode he was in was 'eh'. . . I just can't choose one. Gosh what a hard question!
Fave episode hmm. . . 'B-sharps', oh and Homer as the 'outsider' artist. . . Flanders' freak-diddly-out-diddly is on the top of the list too. I know I'll change my mind later. . .Tough question!

I didn't think that was actually Michael Jackson in that episdoe. I thought it was a person that sounded like him. We just watched that episode last night (Best Buy Fox TV DVD special for 19.99 woot!) and his name wasn't listed in the credits.

translator, he's seem to suffered from "Chuck Cunningham Syndrome".

My favorite episode would have to be Homer's Enemy. It really represents the peak of Homer writing to me, and Frank Grimes served as the perfect representative for someone from the real world reflecting on how ridiculous Homer's achievements are. Not to mention, it has more quality laugh-out-loud moments than some Arrested Development episodes.
And though Simpsons geeks like me hate to copycat, I'm going to have to agree with the majority of people here and say Albert Brooks as Hank Scorpio was the best guest star of all time. It's discussed in the commentaries that Brooks often ad-libs some decent portions of his dialogue, and I think that is what pushes him over the edge as the best.

That actually was Michael Jackson (playing the mental patient who thought he was Michael Jackson), but he was given a fake name, John Jay Smith, in the credits.
However, his record label doesn't allow him to sing for anyone else, so a singer named Kipp Lennon, who often sings on "The Simpsons," performed the song "Happy Birthday, Lisa."
When Dustin Hoffman guested as Lisa's substitute teacher, he was credited as "Sam Etic." (As in semitic, or Jewish.)
The show later made a reference to these fake names. After Lisa saw the Itchy and Scratchy movie, she said, "It was the greatest movie I've ever seen in my life! And you wouldn't believe the celebrities who did cameos. Dustin Hoffman, Michael Jackson... of course they didn't use their real names, but you could tell it was them."
