According to a press release from The CW, Supergirl will be joining the cast of Smallville next season. Is this a good thing or a bad thing? Some people might call this a possible shark-jumping moment ... but for me that already happened back when Jonathan Kent kicked the bucket *sniffle*.Straight from the network -- "On Smallville, the seventh season premiere kicks off with the arrival of Supergirl, whose name is Kara, as Clark's (Tom Welling) 19-year-old cousin. She was born on Krypton and is the daughter of Zor-El, Jor-El's brother. Kara possesses all of Clark's powers and one he doesn't yet have ? she can fly! Kara also has a strong, rebellious streak that puts her at odds with Clark, and puts her onto Lex's (Michael Rosenbaum) radar. In addition, she takes a romantic interest in Jimmy Olsen (Aaron Ashmore)."
Ouch, does this mean Allison Mack won't be back? I'm keeping my fingers crossed ... but some new superblood on the show might help shake things up. It's in danger of stagnating, and a young rambunctious super-powered girl might be the shot in the arm it needs. As far as casting goes, I'd personally like to see the feisty and adorable Ellary Porterfield from Hidden Palms in the role. Who would you cast as Supergirl? Besides say ... Sarah Michelle Gellar in that fan-created image for this post.

Who would I cast in the role? Umm how 'bout nobody. This show should have ended 3 seasons ago. But oh no let's cancel Veronica Mars instead.....right.

They totally blew this show, they've tried to drag it out forever, squandered the good characters and just about introduced every character from the superman universe for no ultimate reason - all of whom are seemingly as thick as shit.

The character they should be introducing is Power Girl, the alt-universe Supergirl. Just for that costume alone!
(Google for the image, you'll see what I mean.)

OK, I love SuperGirl, but adding another superpowered being is jumping the shark. I'd rather a one-episode deal with a faux-Kara claiming a long-lost link to Clark yet the conclusion reveals a con artist powered by the K-rock. Anyhoo, while I love the stereotype of strong, hot women, SmallVille has about a billion of them, they need to balance the scales a bit.

I pretty much agree with all the previous commenters. I've also thought that the "no flights, no tights" rule - while justifiable in the first few seasons - has seriously hampered the growth of Clark and the series in general. Clark's evolution into the Man of Steel has been painfully slow! And the series has taken way too many liberties with Superman history, introducing characters way too early for this point in Clark's life. While I'm all for bending the rules to keep the series entertaining, a lot has bordered on silly.

Yes because Fox would have canceled it after season 3 like it should have been.
An multi episode arc I can see, but the whole season? Lame.
Oh well, I stopped watching the show years ago.

If Chloe is dead then I'm done, she was the only good character last season. And yes it does seem kind of shark jumpy to add Supergirl. They already have Lex in jail, Lana "dead", Chloe has superpowers, and Bizzaro on the loose as stories. What else do you need? Can't they just leave it with Martian Manhunter as the new hero on the farm?

Lex is gone after next season, and Chloe may be this season's casualty. It has to end after next season though. I've seen every episode and been a fan from the beginning, but it's time for Clark to put on the suit and move on. Let the boy FLY! As for Supergirl, I like the bring back Kara for some help idea, but would Adrianne Palicki have time now that Friday Night Lights is moving on to Season 2.

The moment Clark puts on the suit and flies the series is OVER.
Season 7 should be the last one. The series has run it's course. All that comes after season 7 has been shown already in "Lois an Clark".

Didnt they already have a one-shot episode with a fake Kara, as Anita suggested?

I'm surprised by the reaction on this site. I think this is a great idea for change. How many times can we see Clark and Lex give each dirty looks w/o it really being a Superman/Lex fight. How many times do we have to see Clark and Chloe at the Daily Planet hacking some computer to solve a case.
Let's get some new blood, some new direction. Bizarao and Supergirl is a great idea. I love the Supergirl storyline they are using, and if it plays with the original post crisis storyline, we may even see Kara try to kill Clark. That would be one heck of a fight.
I think it needs MORE mythos, not less.
By the way, where did that image come from??

I agree w/ most of the commets above. I like the idea of bizzaro but i hated the fact that chloe died but if u r a true fan we all know that chloe was liviving the life of Lois. The writers realized to late of there mistake so they had to fix it. was it a good fix? no. but it was a soloution. Supergirl on the other hand i have mixed feelings it could be good if they do the right things such as have her not were tights and have Clark try to improve his powers sort of train him while he helps her fit in. remember the lady from JL who put together a squad to fight against the JL maybe she should be introduced to pick up where Lex left off that would be a nice twist. as far as a young Bruce Wayne that would not be a good idea. but w/o introducing Wonder Women Supergirl should visit her Island and spend some time there.

Well, Lana and Chloe are both going to be in Season 7, It was confirmed by John Glover and Erica Durance. Annette O'Toole (Martha Kent) is not in the cast of Smallville for season 7. As for Supergirl I really dont know if introducing her will be good or not.

The future Batman - Bruce Wayne (who is a young billionaire just like Lex) should at least appear in one or two episodes. Since Batman and Superman are best friends - the two could team up to expose a secret project of Lex Luthor.
