When I heard that HBO was close to finalizing a deal for a miniseries based on the John F. Kennedy assassination, I thought, 'oh great, another conspiratorial tale about JFK.'
As it turns out, the miniseries will be based on Vincent Bugliosi's hefty book, Reclaiming History: The Assassination of President John F. Kennedy, which concludes that Lee Harvey Oswald acted alone.
The miniseries, which will be produced by Tom Hanks, Bill Paxton and Gary Goetzman, will follow Oswald throughout his life and to his infamous end at the hand of Jack Ruby after he himself kills Kennedy.
If the name "Bugliosi" sounds familiar, you may recognize him as the man who wrote Helter Skelter, about Charles Manson.
Speaking as someone who has found Oliver Stone's JFK less and less compelling as time wears on, I think it's nice to see big names like Hank and Paxton getting behind something like this. I don't think it will deter the conspiracy theorists at all, but the Kennedy assassination has been synonymous with conspiracy for so long I think it's time we took a step back and took another look at what transpired that day.

We do have a good idea of what happened that day. There was a conspiracy involving the government to kill kill Kennedy. E Howard Hunt has confessed that the government was involved.

Hopefully a really good documentary will quiet the conspiracy buffs.
I used to think that JFK's assassination was a conspiracy--who wouldn't after watch Oliver Stone's JFK--but recent information makes it pretty clear that it was Oswald and Oswald alone.
I saw Vincent Bugliosi recently on MSNBC's Hardball with Chris Matthews and he seems very credible.

Please don't use the movie JFK as the only source of conspiracy theories. There have been a lot of documents release recently that conclude that Oswald could not have acted alone. Regardless of who you think was behind it or whether or not Oswald was involved at all-it was impossible for him to get those three shots off himself.
And how do you explain three shots made by Oswald and more than three exit wounds on the other passengers in the car?

Tracy- bullets pass through a body and hit other bodies. thus, up to three exit wounds per bullet can happen.
I think that the JFK episode of Quantum Leap said it best... People want to belive in conspiracies... if the president can be killed by some yahoo off the street, what hope would there be for the rest of us?
