Good gravy.
I told you recently that Lifetime's new series, Army Wives, was worth checking out, and apparently I'm not the only one who tuned in to the new series. Variety reports that the first episode scored the highest rating in Lifetime's history for a series premiere.
As I've mentioned on this blog before, Susanne Daniels, Lifetime's president of entertainment, wanted to go back to original, scripted programming with series like Army Wives, followed by Side Order of Life and State of Mind on July 15. The three series will air together on Sunday nights.
Side Order of Life stars Marisa Coughlan as a magazine editor who decides to change her life. It also stars Jason Priestley, Christopher Gartin and Diana-Maria Riva. State of Mind, written by author and psychotherapist Amy Bloom, stars Lili Taylor as a therapist with problems far greater than those of her patients. The series also stars Lolita Davidovich, Derek Riddell, Levin Chamberlin, Devon Gummersall and Mido Hamada.
Given Army Wives' strong introduction and two new shows with some pretty strong leading ladies (especially Taylor), Lifetime just might be able to keep some eyeballs glued to the set on Sunday nights.

I don't particulary care for Lifetime shows, most are over the top.
But this series isn't typical Lifetime. You can tell that the show is from the producers of Grey’s Anatomy, because it has a similar formula — ensemble cast, a sudsy plot and complicated characters drawn together by circumstances. Like Grey, the cast is both easy on the eyes and diverse – not just by race, but economical and social backgrounds.
