TV Land, the network that caters to the baby boomers and everyone else who likes a dose of nostalgia in their TV viewing, is making some big changes. They're rebranding their network from being a retro TV destination to being a network that has a whole lot more. And apparently that strategy involves reality shows.
The channel has picked up reruns of Extreme Makeover: Home Edition. They'll start airing on August 7, and its regular slot will be Tuesdays at 11pm.
I'm baffled by this. Why destroy the network theme that has made you as successful as you are? Or do they consider Extreme Makeover a "future classic?" How many times can you watch the rerun of a home makeover show? And at 11pm??
It's great that they're also going to start running some original programming, but airing reality reruns is lame at best.

Oh, I think it's an evergreen show, just like L&O, but you're right 11 p.m. makes no sense. Put it on at 8 p.m. and it becomes an easy alternative to non-family friendly fare on in primetime.
Why TV land is doing this I don't know. They could just go the "good tv" route and show programs like Northern Exposure, Gilmore Girls or highly hyped but low rated in their original run shows.

Why change anything? It's TV Land, it's supposed to be OLD show! What's the point of the network if they just show lame reruns of any show? We already have enough cable channels that do that.
If they want to change anything then get some cult shows like Firefly, VM and Gilmore Girls, at least those have ended.
Home Makeover is not a classic, and like you said, what's the point of watching an episode of it again?

they are trying to increase viewers, which is tough in the multi multi channel universe.....they have a niche now and they should keep it the same with some additions that fit the current scheme.....why change.....

I read TV Land would also start airing episodes of Scrubs and Just Shoot Me next year. I thought it was weird since they're supposed to be a network that shows repeats of old "classic" shows, not ones that are currently on or just ending.

How much you want to bet that there is new management at TV Land? So they figure we will really go to the next level if we have great content like 'Extreme Makeover: Home Edition'!!! Yes, that sappy, over-produced, overly emotional victimfest.
It seems like to me that there must be thousands of hours of great classic television that is still not being shown. I hardly watch TV Land because the stuff they are showing isn't that interesting anymore. Hours and hours of Bonanza? Give me a break.

TV Land has totally lost its way... ever since it stopped showing shows like "Mr Ed" its been nothing but 100 showing of ROSEANE every day.
I almost forget it is there.

Wow, I always thought that TVLand was supposed to show classic television. Now it intends to air a show that is as recent, and might I add boring, as Extreme Makeover Home Addition.
There was once a time when I watched TVLand more than almost any other network. I loved watching actual classic shows from the 50's and 60's. However I stopped when they began airing shows that I remember from not only my childhood, but recent teenage years as well.
I've long thought that TVLand should spin off into different networks devoted to certain decades, each airing shows only from certain decades as well as the well-loved "retromercials." I would have welcomed such a change. The one that is being made only serves to remind me why I would rather turn off my t.v. than watch the current TVLand lineup.

Uck, that's just what TV needs: more reality crap. Why can't there be room for one channel that airs real "classics" from all the decades of television--critically acclaimed shows--instead of rebroadcasting so much dreck?

Yeah...TV Land pisses me off too. Why are they showing movies on Friday nights? If I wanted to watch "Soapdish" or "Weekend at Bernies" there are a thousand channels I can choose from.

Goodness, this is a surprise to me as well. I would've thought one of the Disney owned ABC networks would've been doing the reruns of EM:HE, not TV Land. It appears TV Land is starting to go the way of both Cartoon Network and Boomerang: Start off by showing classics and then changing things around much to the chagrin of many people used to the classic TV format...and it's not good.

I like the classics and something that is family friendly. Please do not make bad changes, you might add more classics and bring back some of the old ones that you took off.

Just what I don`t want to see. Another station with pathetic reality show garbage. So when is Tv Land adding Fear Factor??
Another thing- get rid of that Bonanza crap and replace it with worthy classics like - Alice, One Day At A Time,
Different Strokes and Gimme A Break!
Looks like I`ll be watching my own DVD collections instead of watching TV.

Will tvland add a new line up with old classic shows such as Bewitched, I Dream Of Jeannie and Batman? If tvland does not air classic shows anymore then what other station will?

and yet we cannot find repeats of some great classic shows like Laugh in, He and She or even Ed Sullivan. There is plenty of good stuff out there that should be made availabel before we resort to this kind of pap.
