In my many failed attempts to get an interview with Bob Barker before his final edition of The Price is Right airs, I've exchanged notes back and forth with the show's PR rep at CBS. In the last e-mail exchange, she let me know that Barker will be taping his final TPiR this coming Wednesday, June 6, a detail I also heard on CBS Sunday Mornning while sipping my coffee yesterday. But one other detail that Sunday Morning divulged is that the final episode will air on June 15 in its regular 11 AM time slot, then be rebroadcast the same night at 8 PM, leading right into their broadcast of the Daytime Emmy Awards.
A nine-day tunraround on a game show episode is unheard of; I thought that we wouldn't see this episode until at least late June. But I guess CBS wanted it in time to roll into their Daytime Emmys broadcast. Wonder if Bob will divulge who the new host will be. Either way, look for him to not make a big deal out of his departure; he has said he will give his signature "spay and neuter" line and wish people goodbye, just like every other episode. It's a nice low-key way to end 50 years in TV, don't you think?

They should just cancel the show.
And Does that mean next Thursday we will have a new host or that we have to wait until the fall?

David, the episode only tapes on Wednesday; it doesn't air until Friday, June 15th, as I said in the post. That's the end of the 35th season, so the show will be in reruns until it comes back in September with the new host.

Actually, a nine-day turnaround is not unheard of for The Price is Right... in fact last year there have been as little as six or even five day turnarounds for TPIR, mainly because the show is taped start to finish without much editing needed compared to other game shows.
