(S03E20) It feels weird calling this episode of Entourage a season finale since we have new episodes starting up in just two weeks. It's not exactly normal TV convention for a season to end and a new one to begin so quickly -- but hey, I'm not complaining. What we got here was essentially a culmination of the series thus far. It's everything that Vince and E have worked so hard for and now it's finally paying off. Walsh is on board too and Medellín is officially a go. So as the season ends in normal Entourage fashion with Vince heading off to make his next pic, who knows what's in store.
Lots of things to love about this episode. I'm so glad Billy Walsh is back. Or should I say Wally Balls? The fact that Vince and Eric found him making porn is funny enough. Add in Walsh's desire to bring back "1970s class" to porn along with "the wide bush" and I had to pause the DVR I was laughing so hard. Having this guy back is a good thing and I hope we get more from Nick Rubenstein too, because the interaction between them is good stuff. Fresh faces on this show is just what it needs to stay, well... fresh.
Speaking of just that, Shauna finally emerged from under her rock. Debi Mazar finally had her baby, so it's good that she's returned. I missed her rants and endless insults. Again, the DVR got paused when she likened Drama's apartment hunting techniques to that of a "transient crack whore." It'll be interesting to see what happens with Five Towns. Sure, it had 16 million viewers to start the season, but what's stopping it from pulling a Studio 60? That seems to be the most likely outcome, especially since Drama is now the proud owner of a $1.5 million condo. The show has to fail. Johnny Drama is only funny when he can't afford things.
Back to Medellín. After much negotiation, Walsh and Nick finally agreed on $30 million to make the film and all seems good. Well, there's still plenty for us to ponder in the next two weeks until season four. Walsh wants final cut and may have plans to shoot the entire film in Spanish. Something tells me Vince isn't going to win that Oscar if he has to speak another language.
Not much else exists in terms of conflict though. Turtle is just along for the ride. Eric and Sloan are on the rocks, but that was to be expected. The biggest issue seems to be the production itself. What if it goes belly-up like the Benicio Del Toro version? Vince and Eric have pretty much everything riding on this. Something has to go wrong. Good thing Drama had a nice toast: "To Medellín, to friendship, and to tons of Colombian pussy!"
Entourage returns in two weeks on June 17, with the season four premiere "Welcome to the Jungle."

I'm not so hot on bringing Walsh back again... he's kind of a one-joke character. (And I know Eric is a novice producer, but even a boilerplate contract would specify that the movie had to be in color, in English, less than two and a half hours long, and have nothing higher than an R rating.)
While I liked this episode, there really wasn't much conflict for a season-ender. We all know that Vince's career will work out okay (and he's always said that he wouldn't care that much if it didn't), and that Drama will find a way to screw his up.... And Eric's relationship with Sloan isn't very interesting, so who cares what happens between them? It's a good thing the next season is coming soon, because the need to start upping the ante.

I hear ya, BigTed. There were moments in this episode that felt slightly anti-climactic. Personally, I enjoyed the struggle over Vince between his new and former agent. I wish that had gone on for a while.
However, overall I thought this episode was as good as any recent ones, and I think they really are promising to take things to a new level. Did you see the previews for next season (or next fortnight, as it were?) Explosions, Vince is broke, Eric's in way over his head? That's looking promising.
I also wasn't crazy about Walsh being "their guy," somehow magically capable of low budget filmmaking as only an artiste can do it. It stretched believability that he was such the wonderboy that they would put up with his obnoxious ranting at the dinner table. Still, you gotta admit that the character adds a whole lot of complication to the story. They're rolling the dice with their careers, and they're staking it on this loose cannon. I'm guessing that the show will either develop Walsh's character (after all, they added a new facet by making him now a porn director) or at the very least he'll be a strong foil in upcoming storylines.
Entourage has really delivered before. I bet this new season won't disappoint.

Did anyone watch the season 4 teaser after the credits?
From what I saw:
* Eric and Billy get into a fist fight
* Vince's accountant informs him that he "HAS NO MONEY" and is "FLAT BROKE"
* More conflict on the set of Medellin
That's all I remember, but I'm sure there was more stuff about Drama and 5 towns.

a 6? this episode was no better than a 4.5. I'm a huge fan of Entourage but this was a lackluster episode. We aren't invested (emotionally) in Medelin enough and as such, I dont really give a shit. The only person who has a compelling story right now is Drama. And we dont even know where Turtle is staying. They must have known the 4th season would start right away; this 'finale' could never have stood for 6-9 months as the last episode. Ari getting fired, thats a finale.

Steve, if anything I think that choice proved how useless Sloan has become.
And I agree that having Billy Walsh back is not an exciting development...all that's going to happen is a lot of conflict over his messed up "director's vision".

I'm not excited about Billy Walsh coming back either because I'm not sure what he brings beyond the typical clashes between the artists and the suits. That gets a little boring after a while. Not sure what will happen next, but the good thing is that we will see soon (in two weeks).
I'm looking forward to seeing what happens between Turtle and his female doppelganger. Especially when he reveals his first name . . . will it be as funny as "Cosmo" Kramer?

Solid season closer. Setting up the story line for the next season and giving us a couple of laughs with new and old characters. Love the Rubenstein character. He will is a lovable and pathetic character. Billy Walsh - this guy is awesome. Never know where he is going except off the wall. I am sure he will surprise us next season and Vince will get a nomination if the story line advances this far. Entourage is one of the rare shows you like to plot out in your head after the credits roll.

Walsh is a one-trick pony but he is amusing.
*Sorta spoiler-ish*:
I knew Walsh was becoming back because the crew was at the Cannes film festival last week and Walsh was there alongwith everyone else.
It was an ok episode but am I the only one who doesn't expect too much from this show? I just see it as a very fun ride to tag along to.

I think 5 Towns is going to be a success and Medellin is belly up leaving Vince to live off of Drama.

I just read two comments about E needing to pay more attention to Sloan and get his priorities straight. Are you guys (or girls) kidding me?? E is in the prime of his career and has women options left right and centre. The biggest bone head thing that my favourite character could do is to start becoming more "married" than he already too-often is.
Sloan doesn't contribute much to the show. Sooner she's off, the better.
