As I said in my early review of the new CBS animated series Creature Comforts, I never saw the original Channel 4 version from the UK, so I couldn't compare and contrast, but I loved the pilot episode of the American version, which creator Nick Park (Wallace and Gromit) is also involved with.
Luckily, I found a video preview of the pilot episode via Animation Magazine, and I've placed it below for your viewing pleasure. I absolutely love the idea of putting the words of regular folks into the mouths of these animals, because in doing so, it makes the stories seem less personal and gives them a more universal appeal. It's one of the smartest and cleverest ideas for an animated series I've seen in a long time, and it's nice to see another animated series that, not unlike King of the Hill, doesn't rely heavily on random weirdness to be funny (not that I have a problem with "random weirdness," I just like variety).
Creature Comforts debuts on CBS this Monday at 8:00 p.m.

I loved the British version of this show, and judging from the clip the American version is going to be even funnier -- thank goodness that Aardman is doing it, which should keep it from degenerating into yet another American bastardization of a great concept.

King of the Hill IS weird. Totally weird.
I mean honestly do you think the people depicted on King of the Hill are NORMAL? I know the Simpsons family seems whacky at times, but they all behave just like regular people. Homer is a doofus, Marge is the caring mother who, Lisa is the intelligent and environment activist daughter, Bart is the little evildoer and Maggie is the baby. Those are all typical and, honestly, quite normal people. Even on "Family Guy" people act kind of regular except maybe Peter and Brian (who can talk). The only guy that is really really weird is Major West - Peter "just" acts strange because he is an idiot. What IS weird are the sudden pop culture references they throw in but that's just happening in the imagination of the people - they are remembering stuff or imagining it.
But "King of the Hill"? Those people are whackjobs. If any of those guys would live in my neighbourhood I'd move away as quick as I can. They are really really weird and they don't think about strange stuff, they DO it.
And Futurama - please. They all behave well within their character description of people who live in the 31st century. They might be strange - but how do you know what's normal in 1000 years? :-)
