As of 6 pm eastern, there are more than 14,000 signatures on an online petition to fire Elisabeth Hasselbeck from The View. Of course, this is more fallout from her split-screen debate with former co-host Rosie O'Donnell. It was the debate--the split screen in particular--that made Rosie leave the show three weeks early.Sadly, the petitioners seem to be calling for Elisabeth's removal because of her political views. The website says, "While the purpose of The View is for different views to be expressed, each co-host should be able to express their views without being attacked by a closed-minded co-host who blindly refuses to listen to facts and uses the show to angrily spout propaganda." I highlighted the end of that quote because, I think, it proves that the petitioners simply think that Elisabeth's opinion is wrong. It's an opinion and, whether you agree with her or not, many people share her views.
Of course, this is television we're talking about. So the "we don't like you very much" argument tends to be very powerful.

Allow me to point out the obvious...WHAT SHOW HAVE THESE IDIOTS BEEN WATCHING!?! Excuse me, but the highlighted portion is supposed to be referring to ELISABETH? It's the perfect descripition of She-who-must-not-be-named (ever again, please, God)

This is kind of ridiculous. I mean, I'd even venture to guess that George Soros would admit that this show leans left. The idea that a token conservative is on the panel would seem to be supportive of the overall message behind the petition in the first place. If the show was dominated by conservatives who never let liberal thought get airtime I could see their point, but I think most rational people would see the reverse is more the case. So it seems like its not actually that they want a free exchange of ideas, they just want a free exchange of THEIR ideas.

I had to tune in to The View this morning. Boy it was boring, like a Republican Woman's Tea Party. I predict 'The View' will be off the air in one year.
But then again, what do you expect when you have the standard bearer of Republican talking points, Elisabeth Hasselbeck? I gladly signed the petition.

Someone should start a BanRosiefromEverSpeaking petition! Someone really needs to put a cork in her. I personally don't support Hasselbeck's position on the war, but Rosie just ruins everything by opening up her dumb stupid pie hole!

See, Greg's got it right. He may not agree with Elisabeth, but he at least isn't going to put forth the intellectually dishonest argument that liberal ideology is squelched on the show by the domineering conservative machine that is "the View". That sounds like the ridiculous line of reasoning this petition purports to put forth.

Rosie has fans?
And let me tell you those videos she did on her web site didn't do her any favors as far as her image goes. Yuck, she looks so bad, I want to puke.

Dear God, please tell me I didn't just read a comment in which someone called Elisabeth Hasselbeck intelligent. I'm not saying that Rosie is any smarter, but there really are no words for the stupidity personified that is EH. I don't get why people are defending her. SHE GOT HER WAY, PEOPLE! She doesn't need it! RIP, "The View".

Its sad that we womwn can't argue like men. Men argue and debate opinions all the time without scratching each others eyes out and drawing mustaches on pictures. We ladies can't seem to have seperate View points without someone heading off into a courner and pouting. I am so disheartened by the outcome of this incident. I like both the ladies and had hoped that they would show television that women could hold different beliefs and still manage to get along. i wish that things had turned out differently

I have been watching the View only because of "Rosie." I don't always agree with her but she at least stands for true America. Yes, freedom of speech and even more important the rights of women. Have we forgotten that if we don't keep speaking out on womens rights we will have no one to blame but ourselves when these rights are taken away from us.

The problem isn't Elisabeth. Rosie did bring out the best in Elisabeth so it was to her advantage to keep Rosie around. To me it seemed like the producers were the problem.
The funny thing was watching Donald Trump act like an expert on the View tonight on Larry King. He did say Elisabeth wasn't too bright. He also said Rosie would probably get her own show and then tank in a month or so like her old show did..... didn't Rosie's old show go out on top and have hire ratings than The View ever did? She also won alot of Emmys hosting that show too.
Anyway Elisabeth is free to say what she wants and so is Rosie as well as Donald.

I'm with Bash. Who legitimately cares about this so much that they're going to take the time to sign a petition? How sad. I mean, the whole argument is ridiculous to begin with. What makes either Rosie O'Donnell or Elizabeth Hasselbeck the end-all, be-all source of political commentary? If we're going to believe some random celebrity's opinion on ANY political matter is the gospel, then why don't we just start interviewing random people on the street and get their opinion on why the war sucks or the war is right?
This is the same reason I've become sick of once great artists like Green Day. They realized there was money to be made in addressing the weak-minded youth of America, so they sold out once it became cool to bash Bush, and now they're more popular than ever. Man, after albums like Dookie and Nimrod, I would've never guessed they actually cared about world events, but hey, I guess they've been these big political activists all along. They just cleverly disguised it amongst songs about drug use and masturbation.
Bottom line: I don't care what you have to say. You're not an expert. If you're a musician, go write good music again. If you're a comedian, go be funny again. If you're a female talk show host, go talk about whatever the hell you talked about before the war issue came to light.
Thanks.

Its about time big mouthed Hasselbeck gets to pay a price for this fracas she was just as responsible for.
Rosie was right. It never mattered how often Elisabeth attacked her just as frequently as the other way around, the news was only interested in big bad Rosie attacking poor little pregnant Elisabeth.
Pardon me while I throw up.
I hope she does get fired.

Am I the only one to notice that Rosie seems to be fighting somebody, somewhere for some reason? Remember she made the comment that got her in the hot water with the conservatives she hates anyway....so what's the big deal? Perhaps she is being hoisted by her own petard and needs a much welcome break from the limelight.

I hate to ever agree with Donald Trump, but he was right with his comments about Elisabeth. She's an idiot, plain and simple.
The only reason I've been tuning into The View the past few months is to watch Rosie. Now that she's gone, the show will be a snoozefest with occasional right-wing crap spewed by the blinded airhead.
To sum up: Rosie rocks. I hope she returns to TV sooner rather than later. It's disgusting how she's portrayed by the media and by people such as the ones who replied to this post. Because she's a little louder than innocent Christian Elisabeth, she's seen as the "bad guy" after every argument, even though she's right about most subjects.

So Rosie decides, by her own free will to not sign a new contract and to add to it, asks to leave early and these dopey petitioners want Hassleback fired? Yes folk free speech is alive and well, so long as they agree with your speech. The petitioners must take their cue from Chavez.
Wow. a 14,000 whiner petition. I feel sorry for the hard choices the ABC execs are going to have to make when they get the petition mailed to them. It's A) send it to the shredder, or B) use it to line a puppy crate.
