Rosie O'Donnell has added a new element to her website (regarding her exit from The View): video. She and her Rosie and her producer speak in very general terms, but I interpreted their conversation as blaming the three hosts and the directors of The View for ganging up on Rosie. They talk about "smelling a rat on Monday" before the split-screen debate between Rosie and Elisabeth. It's the split-screen, by the way, that made Rosie quit early. She doesn't really explain why, but her producer compares it to Jerry Springer and I, personally, was reminded of all the chatter on the 24-hour news networks. I think she was tired of being a spectacle.
She also says that she has not spoken with Elisabeth and probably will not speak to her. They have exchanged e-mails and she seems content with that.
I don't know Rosie personally and I don't like The View, but watching this video made me realize that Rosie is both upset about the split-screen debate, but also about the war in Iraq. She gets very emotional near the end of the video as she answers readers' questions about her views and it is obvious that this war is deeply upsetting to her.
I saw the debate and I don't really understand why Rosie is so upset. I think this was the last straw for her. She has been attacked from all directions for everything she has said in the last year (and, let's face it, she hasn't said anything all that profound). I think she is tired of being the headline-maker for The View and being used by the creators of The View to get ratings. She is often covered in the press for her comments and no one at The View seems to be coming to her defense.[Via Perez Hilton]

Helene is not her producer. She is her hairstylist. And they have been doing the video blogs for weeks now, not just because of the blow-up earlier this week. Janette, who drew a mustache on EH's magazine picture that was hanging on the wall (not a true photo) was her writer and they have been friends for over 20 years. It would be nice if all the media outlets would get their facts straight when "reporting" the news! For all of you who wonder about the truth - go to Ro's website, and see the real person. The media outlets don't ever show the whole story!

I can understand Rosie's feeling of betrayal. From what I understand, Barbara Walters completely threw Rosie under the bus with the Donald Trump dust-up in January. Then this with Elisabeth Hasselbeck.
While I think that Rosie can dish it out but sometimes can't take it, who would want to put your heart and soul into a show when your co-hosts pull that kind of crap?
All of this underscores what is going on in this country under President Shit-for-Brains. The U.S. has become extremely divisive, with the Karl Rove-style politics which carves everything up along partisan lines.
We're seeing in on The View and I see it in my life, too.

In my opinion Rosie's view is that she is always correct and when anyone disagrees with her they are just plain wrong. I am looking forward to watching the show again as I did not enjoy Rosie always bashing our Troops and/or Bush. While I did not vote for him as Elizabeth told Rosie the way to get him out is the same way he was brought in by our right to vote!
Rosie needs to grow up and get all her facts straight instead of what is fed to her from the far leftist!

The person in the video with Rosie is Helene and she is her makeup/hair person. Not her producer. They have been doing videos on her website for a few months now. There is usually a 3rd person with them and that is Janette(producer/writer). If you go to her site you will see a link named Jahero and that is where you can find all of the video blogs. They use to do them before Rosie taped the View on a daily basis. In general, they were better than "The View" itself.

I can't agree more about Elisabeth. She should be let go from the View. You can discuss politics around her, without her getting visibly angry. She can't debate without yelling or making it personal. And she's not really a celebrity, nor someone with any real credibility.

Rosie need to control her emotions and learn to have a debate with a person who holds an opposing view. Elisabeth has her own opinions and values, and is not going to be swayed or bullied by Rosie into changing them. Do you think Rosie would ever alter her opinion for anyone? When I hear Rosie speak about political issues I get the feeling she gets her information from very subjective and narrow sources and she goes off half-cocked with her sometimes ridiculous claims. The person who said she can dish it out but can't take it is absolutely right. Grow up Rosie, and learn how to hold a discussion like an objective and mature adult.

Elisabeth Hasselbeck does act like a little kid, but it's more than that. Anytime you ask "do you have proof?" she goes "The proof is in the Bible". The Bible also has slavery and stoning for working on Sundays and wearing non natural clothing. How can you do a debate with that?

I think its disgraceful that Rosie is the only one whose views get pounced on when the cable shows talk about dust-ups on "The View." I realize she is controversial and doesn't act PC, but I believe she is passionate about what she believes.
Having said that, I also believe Elizabeth Hasselbeck has some deeply held beliefs. She is just as capable as Rosie at airing her views in an angry, forward way.
Yet, it is only Rosie who gets skewered, sliced and diced. Frequently, the shows begin with something like, "Well, Rosie did it again on The View today, getting into trouble with her obnoxious opinion..."
Wait a minute! Where's all the outrage at Elizabeth Hasselbeck and her big mouth? After all, Rosie's outspokeness about bringing troops home at least represents the viewpoint of about 70% of the populace - Elizabeth's viewpoint is far less popular, yet she, and all the white male cable show hosts (Rosie is right about them being the biggest bashers), like Tucker Carlson, Joe Scarborough, Bill O'Reilly, Sean Hannity, etc, go at her like sharks. All these men are middle-aged white, right wing Republicans. Its definitely slanted against her.
If I were her, and had as much money as she does, I'd leave too. Who needs this crap? I'd like to see her do a show in the same format of, say, Bill Maher.
As for The View, it was a snoozefest before she got there. I hope it tanks now. I'll sure never watch it again as long as Hasselbeck remains, and remains untouchable.
Sayonara, Rosie. You have a lot of support in your corner.

It had less to do with the debate and more about friendship... or lack thereof. Her words were twisted on the fox shows and she asked Elizabeth if she believed she was saying that troops were terrorists. Rosie thought that Elizabeth was her friend and when she couldn't simply answer the question and would rather get more points with the Fox demos than that is what bothered Rosie. Everyone who has been watching Rosie knows that she is for the troops and has donated generously to do so. And also, Rosie more often than not has backed up her views. I find that those that say otherwise get their information about Rosie from one source... Fox News. I don't have a problem with someone showing their emotion because to me that means they have a pulse and are passionate about what they believe. I don't agree with Elizabeth's politics and actually think she was used this past week and doesn't even realize it yet. She was even more tolerable with Rosie around than not. However, Elizabeth is terrible articulating her views. Take her away from politics and she is ok.

I only watched the View a few times when I was really desparate for something to watch - it is not a show for anyone who has an ounce of intelligence..... I'm not a Rosie fan but I admire the way she does put herself out there and says what's on her mind - she's not afraid to say what we are all thinking about what's going in the world today... I never liked Barbara Walters, she got where she is by being a butt kisser, she never puts herself out there and never asks the hard questions...god forbid Barbara be confronted on anything -she enjoys being a celebraty more than a true journalist... as far as Elisabeth is concerned, it will take more than dying her hair brown to make her credible. She knows nothing more than what the producers write down for her on their notes - she prefers the readers digest version of the show topics - why have any knowledge of anything when you can have someone give you the highlights right before the segment... she has no opinion other than what others want her to think. If you read her profile on the View page, she has done nothing relevant that would make her qualified to discuss the real topics of life - kinda like her idol, GW.

I usually agree with Rosie on the View and roll my eyes whenever E. Hasselbeck opens her (stupid) mouth, but I believe the show is called the View, not "Rosies View". I love Rosie, but every time I watch the show, she is rude and interupts when the others try to express their "View". She gets loud and won't let anyone else express their opinion, unless they agree with her. I love ya Rosie, but come on, everyone has the right to be wrong.

I think you may be being a little harsh on Barbara Walters. She had to claw her way to the top at a time when women were regarded as little more than coffee fetchers. She survived by doing what she had to do because she was good at her craft and felt it was the price she had to pay. Remember, she was one of the women who paved the way so that it could be easier for others after her.
As for Elisabeth Hasselbeck, I think she definitely believes the things she says. I also believed she gets her talking points from people who absolutely view Rosie as an enemy, so I find what Elisabeth does more than a little disturbing. She has held these views all along but never felt the need to air them in the way that she did when Rosie came aboard. Almost as if she was trying to say "See, I can be loud too, only I won't have to pay the same price you will." Seeing Rosie slammed day after day appeared to be ok with Hasselbeck, energized her, even.
As for Rosie, I think she invites some of the bashing because must have known how the right wing demonizes anyone who disagrees with them. She chose her fight, and I think she was capable of handling it at first, but ever since she announced her departure it has gotten worse. I think conservatives were annoyed that she decided to leave instead of ABC giving her the boot, so they, in the form of Hasselbeck, decided that they would make her life miserable every time she said something. They were hell-bent on a victory against Rosie, which is why morons like Bill O'Reilly tried to take credit for Rosie's leaving. They desperately wanted to be the ones responsible for a Rosie ouster, and hate the fact that it was her own decision not to return.
The View is no longer watchable without Rosie. And I hope Elisabeth Hasselbeck stays home after she pops out her next kid.

i dont think that its fair to make out the conservatives as manipulating and silencing enimies when almost all the news outlets have a liberal bias
Elisabeth has no choice but to blindly defend her opnions when people like Rosie and Joy blindly bash bush and the conservatives

Patrick, #16,
I would love if, just once, someone would explain where all this "liberal bias" in the news exists. Frankly, I don't see it. Mainstream news just reports the news, it sure isn't their fault if most of America thinks George Bush is a horse's ass. They don't manufacture the polls. As for cable, one host after another is conservative. Hannity, O'Reilly, Hume, Wallace, Shepard Smith, Scarborough, Carlson, all conservatives. Chris Matthews seems more liberal, along with Wolf Blitzer and Anderson Cooper. Both Tim Russert and Larry King appear neutral. As for radio, the talk shows are vastly right wing.
So, please, tell where the big liberal news conspiracy is.

Yeah, real liberal bias, Patrick.
As a matter of fact, the news outlets are so liberal that Elisabeth Hasselbeck gets all the blame on the news and entertainment shows while Rosie gets off scot-free. This is because all the shows, blogs and papers are soooooo left wing.
Haven't you noticed how they fawn over Rosie?
Idiot.

And here's a hint, 75% of the country and 95% of the world hates Bush. Bush in any other country would have been brought up on war crimes a long time ago. He lied to us, and the world before starting a war because Suddam tried to kill his daddy. Bush should be in jail and not the White House.
