I once called in sick to work when I wasn't sick. When I got to work my boss hinted that he didn't believe I had been sick. And it got me thinking: he's wrong. Let's say I really was sick that day. I would have done the same thing I did when I faked, which was call in to work and tell them I wasn't coming in because I was sick. If I was really sick, then my boss would have said the same thing to me, that he didn't believe me, even though I was really sick, and he would have been wrong.
I thought of that after watching this video of Conan O'Brien taking a film crew to the home of one of his writers who phoned in sick. It's pretty funny to see the late night host trying to figure out if the guy is sick, what jokes he's been working on (about Paris Hilton), and why the guy has so much gum. Video after the jump.

At the end of the video they tell you why they visited him - the guy asks whether it was just because he sent in one joke via e-mail that they got suspicious - if he's able to send in work then he's propably able to do work.
But that's the problem these days - even if you are sick you keep thinking about work and try to help your co-workers and that's a big problem. Even when you leave work if they want to they can reach you. That's one of the bad sides of cellphones, Blackberrys and e-mail.
So I'd suggest that guy should not answer any emails or phonecalls from now on when he's at hom when it's somebody from work.
Because he's not getting paid at home and they just made that absolutely clear :-)

there are countless people all over the world that would kill for his salary.
the american economy, however, does reflect this. with huge import / export gaps, its a matter of time before the whole thing collapses.
thats why the usa will invade iran.

Conan is super . BUT why not . he and I share the 'being from MASSACHUSETTS' . .a LOT of 'celebs' are from MA .. (I am NOT one of them .. but:)
I contacted Conan for my boss Don Adams when Conan was hosting the Emmys... Don and Barbara SO wanted to present . they were never asked . even though "Get Smart" was one of the few Classic Emmy winning shows .. ? .. Conan spoke with Don . did not work out .. Conan adored Don and Don was delighted to meet him at the NBC 75th anniversary .. Conan went to Don as he sat to watch the show .. as did many other celebrities .. Conan is INCREDIBLE .. so few as talented as he is ..
