NBC is trying to save money everywhere.
Longtime Dateline host Stone Phillips is being let go by the network, for money reasons. Phillips' current co-host, Ann Curry, will continue to do the show. I guess NBC wants someone in there who is already under contract and does other stuff at the network. Curry is the newsreader on The Today Show too. She'll be joined by various NBC reporters as rotating co-hosts.
No word on what Phillips will do now. I wonder why they didn't just keep him on and have him do other things at the network and MSNBC? Maybe he didn't want to, who knows.

Curt: corrected, but there are nicer ways of pointing out typos, don't you think?

Yes Curt, that was very rude. In fact, there is a lovely little "corrections" button at the top of the screen you should use to submit things like this.

I would say that Bob is a little sensitive but I don't want him to get angy with me and hurt my feelings.

There is a Corrections tab at the top of the page. And of course some of us type fast and aren't always able to catch our typos.

I recall a blooper show a while back, where he was struggling to pronounce the word 'ancient'. He eventually went with 'prehistoric'.

Goodbye Stone Phillips!
Well, he can always get a job blowing up GM trucks.
Doug
PS He was the reporter on the faked story of unsafe gas caps on GM trucks. The caps were safe, of course, until NBC staff placed an ignitor in the filler neck to explode when hit by a crash vehicle.

Stone Phillips had much more appeal than the female co-host. He was worth much more. So sorry to see him go.

I also was shocked last night while watching Dateline.
I agree with Barbara and Irene, get rid of Ann.
Stone is so very handsome and articulate
(regardless of the MALE comments).

Stone appeared sincere and had Q. Ann Curry is insincere and puts on a fake empathy facade. Whenever Ann is on TV, I change the channel.
Stone will be an asset someplace in the network world. I work for a newspaper and I know that we are undgergoing some change and cuts. The Web is what's happening. I hate Al Gore for inventing the Web.

Stone will be missed. But I am sure his talent will become someone else's asset in the near future. I look forward to seeing his future broadcasts. NBC gave away a great one. Now it is time for the competition to make a move to improve themselves with Stone Phillips. See you soon Stone.

I was so sad when I heard Stone announce that was his last broadcast. I like his voice, I like his smile, I like his name... He is just very likeable. I hate when a good newsperson is let go. I just don't want change I guess. I still get sad when I think of David Bloom's death and how empty the show seemed for Soleidet O'Brien when she finished out the season. You will be missed Stone, good luck in your career change.

I am appalled that you would choose Curry over Stone. Curry makes my blood crawl with her whiny, how did you feel, fake, fake presentation. She is the sole reason we quit watching the TODAY show and now we will quit watching DATELINE. Wise up NBC - bring back Stone and Imus. Congratulations on getting rid of Couric.

We need Stone Phillips back on the air. He was the reason I watched dateline. I like Meredith and was not sorry to see Katie go, but I wonder, why wasn't Campbell Brown, Ann Curry or Natalie Moralis offered the job? Get rid of Al Roker!! I don't think that he should have been allowed to use his position at NBC to call for Don Imus to be fired. Conflict of interest! Look at how many people Al has offened, sometimes giving an unsinere apology. NOT FAIR!! Wake up NBC, you're losing some of your best people. First Stone, and now Campbell. Both deserved to be kept at NBC. I would watch any show they are on.

Just disappointed that Stone Phillips is no longer on the air. He was a professional, gentle and class act, that is missing. Shame on NBC for not renewing his contract. I wish I could find him to tell him directly how much I miss not seeing him on the air.

I always liked him but WHAT did he do to his hair?
His hair was always so nice and now it looks stubby.
I like his delivery and his personality on the show. And I also ask why didn't they just have him do other things on NBC?
Break a leg Stone!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Stone Phillips reminds me of Peter Jennings who passed away a couple of years ago after reporting the news for World News with Peter Jennings on ABC-TV.
Handsome, professional, first-class presentation of reporting the news. As well as having the greatest voice in TV...I wish him the best and will follow him to his next show.
