The newest set of Lost flashback videos features the back stories of Jack, Hurley, Locke, Sun and Jin. Jack's video is more of a Christian-Jack flashback since most of the clips focus on Christian's last days in Australia. We get a brief glimpse of Ana-Lucia during Christian's argument with Claire's aunt Lindsay. Ana-Lucia and Christian part ways in front of a bar, where Christian happens to encounter Sawyer. The video moves ahead to Jack's arrival in Australia to search for Christian, where he learns that his father has disappeared from his hotel. The Hurley flashback uses footage from "Tricia Tanaka Is Dead." Hugo's father, David, takes him to a psychic in order to lift the Numbers Curse. Eventually, Hurley realizes that David paid the psychic to pretend to lift the curse. Later, Hurley begins to pack for his trip to Australia. David encourages Hurley to give the money away, and tells him to not lose hope. Hurley leaves anyway, and his father promises to be waiting for him when he gets back.
Locke's flashback depicts the events of "Further Instructions." One rainy day, Locke picks up a hitchhiker and brings him to Mike and Jan's commune. At lunch, Locke says the blessing and expresses gratitude for his new family. After weeks of living at the commune, Eddie (the hitchhiker) becomes interested in a mysterious greenhouse on the commune's property. Locke promises to ask Mike and Jan for permission to let Eddie in on the secret. When he arrives at the greenhouse, Mike and Jan tell him that Eddie is an undercover police officer. They are angry that John let Eddie trick him and are concerned that Eddie will discover the marijuana that the commune is growing. Locke attempts to fix the situation by taking Eddie hunting in the woods, but is unable to kill him.
The Sun and Jin back story uses scenes from "The Glass Ballerina." Jin is summoned by Mr. Paik, who asks him to kill Jae Lee, Sun's lover. Without being too specific, Paik tells Jin that Jae Lee dishonored the family and stole from him. Later, Sun and Jin argue about Jin's newest task. Sun begs Jin to run away with her, but Jin refuses to shirk his duties to Mr. Paik. Jin goes to Jae Lee's hotel room and begins to beat him. Jae Lee tearfully apologizes when Jin puts a gun to his head, which causes Jin to reconsider. He orders Jae Lee to either leave the country or die. As Jin is getting into his car outside the hotel, Jae Lee's body comes crashing down on his windshield. Mr. Paik catches Sun at Jae Lee's funeral and tells her to go home to her husband.
It's unfortunate that, with just a week left, ABC never showed the flashbacks of dead or supporting characters. Desmond and the Tailies were left out, which is unfortunate. All in all, the videos are a great resource for fans coming to the show late, but they didn't contain any new material for current fans. Next week's installment should be the last.
