Here's a little addendum to this post: ABC is pushing the season finale of Boston Legal out of the May sweeps period.
The episode was supposed to run on May 22, but ABC has instead decided to squeeze one more "very special episode" of The Bachelor titled "After The Final Rose." This means that the season finale of Boston Legal won't air until the following Tuesday, May 29, at 10pm.
Ouch. Not only is the show being interrupted for a reality show, it's being interrupted by an episode of a reality show that was just thought of, an additional episode after the finale. What's up with that?
If anyone doubts that some networks put reality shows above scripted shows, this should put that to rest.

I'm a regular viewer, but honestly, "Boston Legal" is not a show whose dignity can possibly be insulted.

Whether or not the season finale airs during the Nielsen sweeps period is pretty much irrelevant from the viewer's perspective. Do many people even pay attention to the actual start and end dates?

Boston Legal doesn't get enough credit for being the most original, innovative show on TV thanks to a great creative writing staff and a wonderful cast. Can't believe the season finale is being delayed for another tiresome, monotonous "Bachelor" episode.

This move has little to do with Boston Legal or The Bachelor and more to do with Dancing with the Stars and Idol:

this deserves an exception-
Choosing The Bachelor over Boston Legal is bad
Boston Legal is the only show I care for and tape when I miss it.
Let us bring a lawsuit

Bad Reality TV will be the death of us all. Of course I would want to watch The Bachelor over Boston Legal. Who doesn't want to see a show cut to commercial every 5 minutes to pimp that week's sponsor? Boston Legal's whole quality story with unique and interesting characters is no match to the drama of what will unfold after the Final Rose is given out.
Can't we sue someone for ABC's premeditated, willful destruction of my Tuesday night?

The Bachelor is still on? Maybe Alan will bring it up during an episode.

I understand that the The Bachelor is cheaper to make and can get lower ratings, but does ABC really think that it will get higher ratings than Boston Legal? That's just insane.
And frankly this isn't anything new. At least once ABC didn't show any new BL in November sweeps.
Just renew BL for a few more seasons and i will be happy.

BL does seem to be the "red headed step child" of ABC's lineup. I remember a few years ago, when BL got bumped from its time slot (I think during March) to allow ABC to run a little midseason replacement about some McDoctors. When that show took hold, TPTB decided to keep it on through May sweeps, prematurely ending BL's season (although we did get a "supersized" season of 27 or 28 episodes of BL the next season, becuase the remainder of the prior season's shows ran first).
Clearly ABC likes it enough to renew it, just not enough to give it any respect. I would think that someone like David E. Kelley would warrant some respect. Maybe the light tone of the show encourages TPTB to take it lightly.
In thinking about this and writing it, I am surprised to see how much ABC's treatment of BL a few years ago is echoed in its treatment of Men in Trees this year. At least BL got "bested" by a show that became a phenomenon. MIT got thrown over for the overblown wanna-be Dawson Leery's of October Road (and yet, still, I cannot turn away - its a sickness).
Maybe is an ABC issue and not a BL issue.

Here in Australia BL is a cult. I have people fighting to get the latest episode. If good writing and wonderful acting is losing out to reality bullshit, then we are all doomed

Face it - totally dumb heartthrob reality TV has a higher potential of getting just as good rating as Boston Legal just because women aren't yet totally fed up with this reality TV BS.
I really wonder what will happen in the season finale of Boston Legal. Danny has gotten three warnings now... maybe we'll get a cliffhanger...

I think you're reading too much into it. After all, House's finale is also on the 29th...and Fox loves that show!

Dee, finally the voice of reason! Bob, look at the schedule!
It's pretty obvious that ABC added a "Bachelor" filler to get "Dancing With the Stars" away from "American Idol." Most Tuesday nights, "Idol" is at 8 and "Stars" is at 9, so there's no conflict. But ABC is milking "Stars" for every hour it can and wants to run it Tuesday as a two-hour finale without having it get drilled by "Idol" for the first hour.
Thus, filler.
