As reported in our Upfronts coverage, NBC announced that American Idol judge Randy Jackson's World Moves will be on their 2007-2008 primetime schedule. World Moves is a reality competition series (what else?) which pits hip hop dance teams from around the world against one another. The winning team will be awarded an international touring contract. According to the NBC press release, World Moves in not just about winning a competition: "World Moves involves stories that change lives and bring the world together." Hmm, I wonder if it will cure cancer too! And stop global warming! And end the war in Iraq!
Seriously, wouldn't it be great if Randy and his "Yo dawg" attitude really did change the world for the better?
Okay, back to reality. We are talking about a reality TV show here. And a pretty typical one at that.
World Moves will follow dance teams with five to seven members. The teams will be judged on athleticism, creativity, and innovative choreography. Finalists will head to Los Angeles to compete live and, as usual, viewers at home will be asked to vote for their favorites. I know the American Idol "nationwide talent search/voter elimination" model is one that works, but I'm beginning to tire of the format. It's been so played out. Don't you think?
Jackson will be producing the project in partnership with the creators of the World Hip Hop Championship. The show will air on NBC later in the fall.

By the way, Mikey; which error are you sorry for? The bad spelling or the bad assumption that all dancers are gay? Either way, I forgive you because you are right about something. Your hand DOES feel better than my own!! Thanks BUDDY!!!

No. I do not think the user format has played out. I also believe "yo dawg" beats the heck out of such obviously racially motivated sayings. Get a clue.

Randy Jackson had half his stomach surgically removed and he's gaining weight. Explain that? Forget your dancing, there's your show!

Ed & Mike - stop this nonsense - it's grossly unattractive and not worth anyone's time. "Waste" is not the only mispelled word. Doesn't matter. There are plenty of brilliant people who lack spelling skills. There are plenty of not so brilliant people with excellent spelling skills. Now, can we move on?
Anyway - I get my news from the newspaper and my entertainment from my TV. If there's anything significant to report before the morning paper, then the TV stations will break through the shows with special announcements. I look forward to shows that take me away from depressing events of the world, and I hope this dancing show succeeds.
