Even before this morning's presentation of the 2007-08 ABC fall schedule, George Lopez knew that his show wasn't going to be on it. That's because ABC Entertainment president Steve McPherson, gave him the bad news over the weekend. Apparently, McPherson and ABC thought George Lopez was going to be a money loser if it got picked it up for another season. Lopez isn't buying it, as he told the LA Times today. He not only told the newspaper that he should have gotten one more season to tie up some loose threads, but that his show outperformed other shows, like Notes from the Underbelly, that got renewed. "TV just became really, really white again," he told the Times.
What especially galled him was that his show was dumped in favor of Cavemen, which is being marketed as a show about different kinds of people trying to fit in in society, themes which Lopez explored on his show. He speculates he got axed because his show is produced by Warner Brothers and not ABC Television Studios
"So a Chicano can't be on TV, but a caveman can?" Lopez told the paper in a diatribe sprinkled with profanities. "And a Chicano with an audience already? You know when you get in this that shows do not last forever, but this was an important show, and to go unceremoniously like this hurts. One hundred seventy people lost their jobs."

I'm getting tired of the damn race card being bandied about. It didnt get canceled because hes latino. It got canceled becasue his show sucks. Such is the nature of television. If he has some evidence of racism, then by all means produce it.
Hasnt the show been on several years? Its not like this is Fox and it was never given a chance.
Seems to me some of the most popuar shows have a racially mixed casts: Lost, Heroes, 24, CSI, BSG.
Theres enough real racism in the world without people crying wolf.

After seeing his so called HBO "comedy" special, I find it very hard to watch George Lopez on TV at all.

Maybe somebody should tell George Lopez that many other TV shows were canceled too. In fact, it happens many times a year!

The fact that it came as news to me that The George Lopez Show was on tv for FIVE years might be the reason the show was cancelled...

I already hated this asshole, now I have reason to hate him more.
The majority of shows are canceled each year, live with it. You should have never had your own show anyways jackass!

I loved that show. The cast and crew, writers and producers were very good. I am not hispanic. My complaint is, why are the family shows canceling in favor of shows about people who refust to stick it out through the tough times. There are more shows on air about divorced or "avoiding commitment" people than about families. This was a good show.

Can a Chicano be on TV? Mmmm, I'm going with YES. According to IMDB, "George Lopez" aired 118 episodes over six seasons.
The most recent ep of "Notes from the Underbelly" -- a funny, original show -- had a 4.1/7 last Wednesday night. The most recent eps of "George Lopez" -- a canned, bland, tired show -- averaged a 3.2/5 on Tuesday night.
When you do 3.2/5s, it's OK for the net to cancel your show. Race did not appear to be a motivation when ABC picked it up for a sixth season last year, so why is race a motivation for canceling it? It's not.
STFU, George Lopez! Your show sucked!

He does have sort of a point...that Caveman show is going to bomb so bad...the early reviews say that it is one of the most atrocious shows ever produced.

#8: Because conflict makes for good drama and thus good shows, and because with hundreds of channels there's a lot more to compete with and a whole lot more choices for people who want to see good drama (or interesting comedy, which is always rooted in good drama - remember, comedy is the hard one.)
Fell good everything-is-right-with-the-world shows have a diminishing audience because there's much more interesting and engaging stuff out there.

I agree with machine I didn't even know this show was still on much less for five years. He says that it was a very important show, how is that? The couple of episodes I did manage to watch were just a normal sitcom with acpects of his stand up thrown in. I find it amazing that he was ablr to stretch it into a five year run. Oh well another one down and not a great loss anyway.

I have to agree with so many statements regarding Mr. Lopez, I to watched the HBO special and I couldn't believe what I was hearing, I liked the show, but you know it has had its run it was a nice family show but it ran its course and its time to move on...I have lost interest in him with all the statements he has made lately I no longer wish to waste my time....good luck to the rest of the cast I hope they have long successful careers!

Hey, look. One hundred seventy people lost their job, probably the same amount of people over at Cavemen got their job.
But I forgot. George Lopez, the show, was clearly an important show. Because, and I may be wrong on this, there has never been an unfunny show about race before.

George Lopez didn't seem like the kind of guy who'd bring race into this thing. I'd like to compare my white guy bank account to his.

Important??? The show was totally lame. It was no different from all of the other "Dad is a doofus" dreck that pollutes network television. No different! The fact that it had a completely unfunny Chicano as its star doesn't somehow make it "important". The show was important to George Lopez, that's all. It had zero importance beyond that realm.

I support George Lopez. I have always enjoyed his show, even According to Jim! I mean I am going to miss the shows, but they should at least let them end the show with a big bang. I am going to miss the live audience shows. It seems like CBS is the only one that will have them anymore.
