This is
Upfronts week, when all the networks reveal their new fall schedules and tell us which new shows have made it and which old shows have been canceled. We'll have coverage every day this week (starting later today, with NBC's schedule.) Here's a handy guide to what's coming up:
- Monday: NBC
- Tuesday: ABC
- Wednesday: CBS
- Thursday: The CW and FOX
Some of what the networks announce will be big surprises for many people. I'm actually more anxious to see what old shows get renewed/canceled than what new shows we'll be seeing this fall.

Most of the pickups and renewals have already been announced. The big drama this week will be time slots.
NBC blinked on the Thursday schedule last fall, starting "Studio 60" there and then moving it to Monday after ABC announced it was moving "Grey's Anatomy" to the same slot.
I'm curious to see if NBC tries again by -- as rumored -- moving "Heroes" to the Thursday 10 p.m. slot. I sort of doubt they will, but it would make Thursday a little more interesting than way-past-its-prime "ER."

Porchland,
They will if they're smart. Hard to remember now, but ER started this season on borrowed time and heading for a midseason "hiatus." I'm not sure what reinvigorated it (I started watching again this season for the first time in years), but they let it run through uninterrupted. Hopefully, they'll use the bump as a way to get a quality, talked-about goodbye in the near future, instead of seeing it as a mandate for 5 more years.

I hope the nets realize by now that shows don't bounce back well from month-long blocks of reruns. "Heroes," "Desperate Housewives" and "Lost" all took hits this spring after long blocks of reruns.
Shows don't produce in the summer. Seasons are 22 episodes from September to May. New episodes don't air in November, December, January and April.
I mean, what? The old rules don't work anymore.

I hope these guys do remember the TV season is from September to May - and not start the new season in January - IE what LOST might be doing this up coming season. That is 8 months with out LOST - totally stupid!

"Heroes" stays on Monday, followed by "Journeyman."
"Bionic Woman" on Wednesday.
"Scrubs" moves down 30 minutes to 9. (Smart move. The one-hour eps can start on the hour.)
"Friday Night Lights" to Friday night. Finally! (Of course, the core audience will be at high school football games during that time!)
The biggest news looks like Sundays in the spring: "Law & Order," "Medium" and "Lipstick Jungle" start after football wraps up. I'm guessing all will be WITHOUT RERUNS!!
