(S03E22) I know this is going to sound absolutely insane, but I like Edie better now than I ever had before. I know she gets more and more manipulative with every episode, but she also becomes more human. It's not like she isn't completely predictable. If Carlos doesn't know her well enough by now to figure out that she is lying about wanting a baby, then I don't really think we can put all the blame on her just because he's a moron. I know that Carlos desperately wants a baby (a son, apparently), but is he really blind to how Edie has treated Travers for his entire life up until recently?Edie and Carlos
Maybe Carlos is being deliberately blind, or maybe he really has a need to get back at Gaby as I deduced from Carlos' reaction to the wedding invitation. Either way, I don't think Edie is so bad. I love how she is always trying to get the other housewives to slight each other and turn against each other. I hope (this may be blasphemy) that we continue to see more of Edie even though Bree is coming back. I'm not even rooting for Carlos and Gaby to get back together anymore, and that doesn't surprise anybody more than it surprises me.
Gaby and Victor
Now, just because I don't necessarily think Carlos and Gaby need to get back together doesn't mean I think Gaby should marry Victor. I am so glad she is starting to see the light. The question is, will she risk embarrassing Victor at the last minute? We saw what he did to the meter cop. What do you think he'll do to Gaby if she leaves him at the altar? I don't think he's going to hurt her; well, maybe not immediately. But I think he is a scary guy. And he may end up hurting her if she marries him. If only Gaby weren't about as focused on appearances as Victor is. I am still willing to bet that Gaby isn't going to go through with it. It's too bad about the demise of the double wedding, though. That could have been such great, campy fun!
Susan and Mike
Susan didn't annoy the hell out of me in this episode, which is saying a lot. When Mike isn't playing a total one-note coma victim, he is a very good foil for her insanity. She had a few funny moments canceling her wedding multiple times, but this schtick gets old. This was just a waiting til the finale episode for them, though they do look sickeningly happy, no?
Lynnette and Tom
Holy tamales! The writers did the right thing by getting rid of Rick and having Lynnette and Tom go through a serious bump, but I have to say, they ratcheted it up a level with the possibility that Lynnette has lymphoma. Wow. Did not see that coming. I thought there was going to be a lot more fall-out behind the fact that Tom threw Lynnette out of bed, though I don't think that was purposeful. Lynnette is a perfect character to give lymphoma to because even if she recovers, you know it's going to be a great ride. The fact that she has young children just makes it so much worse. Ow. I hope they don't resolve this speedily with a negative biopsy in the finale. I'd love to see them dealing with cancer next season. That is a great set up.
Bree is coming back next week! Hurray!
Even though this episode seemed to be a time-filler before the season finale, I thought it was a great episode. I'm giving this episode, out of a high of 7, a

The look Mike made over his coffee cup in response to Susan's comment about not wanting to be perceived as a "flake" by all the people she was calling (to reinstate her wedding) was *priceless*! I'm so glad his personality is back.

I think the Lynnette/Tom story-line is great. When they were fighting in bed and she got thrown, I was really on the edge of my seat to see what the heck was going to happen.
I have to say, this show is back to being good. For a while, I doubted I would keep watching it. All it was about for a while was all the women fighting over men, and as a guy, I couldn't take the chick-flick scenario that was ensuing. But this show is back. Back to good story lines and good character development (and that includes laying off the whole Susan-is-a-klutz events that annoy me as well).

Loved the line when from Gabby when she and Susan were seriously into the wine and chocolate "If I were a Lesbian I would so do you."

I thought Tom (Doug Savant) was really great throughout these last couple of episodes. He's a real character now, not just a male prop for the ladies.

I'm sorry, but I have no interest in seeing Lynette diagnosed with cancer. It would not be great to see her fight through it, it would just be horribly depressing. Yes, felicity huffman is the actress who could pull it off, but the marriage problems are enough to deal with. It's bad enough that every day you hear of someone else getting cancer. It's just depressing, and to be honest i might stop watching if they do go through with it.

Desperate Housewives is supposed to be COMICAL MELODRAMA - a show where you can LAUGH at the crazy antics of people who have more pathetic lives than people IRL. 60min to sit back and chuckle at Susan getting lost in the woods, Edie seducing Carlos, Gabrielle duking it out over parking tickets etc. etc.
CANCER and leaving 5 kids without a mother is NOT FUNNY - not even close. Its sick, sick, sick imho. If they wanted to get rid of Lynette I can think of 5 crazy Desperate Housewives story lines right now that would have been way better than the one the producers just shoved through:
1) Lynette runs off with her chef to Mexico
2) The doctor says Lynette and Tom are 1/2 brother and sister
3) Lynette decides she wants a sex-change operation
4) Lynette gets kidnapped by the CIA and it turns out she is an agent who got amnesia on one of the missions
5) Lynette gets abducted by aliens
Number 5 is my favorite b/c she could "return" in another woman's body (some hot super model) and the kids could still have a mother...then they could run a whole series on her coming back as a Stepford Wife and Tom loving it at first...but then trying to change her back...

A Lymphoma Survivor said...
It is brave that Desperate Housewives is finally making the characters more human rather than so superficial. To bring something like Hodgkin's Lymphoma in the storyline justifies that cancer is REAL and that it can happen to absolutely anyone even in "fantasy suburbia." I know it will probably be skimmed through and you will not see what a cancer patient truly goes through in our reality, but I, for one, am pleased to know that Desperate Housewives is finally taking a real risk in what has been part of my life for two years. Yes, I battled Hodgkin's Lymphoma and many times, I felt I had to hide “my cancer” because of stereotyping and disrespect that sometimes a cancer patient endures because of ignorance. I, for one, look forward to watching a show that has finally had the nerve to represent my cancer whether it sounds depressing or not -- cancer is real and it should be acknowledged and respected, not shunned like leprosy. To those who find the subject line depressing. Do not worry too much. I am sure after they skimmed through the cancer storyline, it will return to the superficial show that you all know and love.
