In the "big surprise" department, we have this item: ABC has made the shocking move to pick up the Kate Walsh-fronted spin-off of Grey's Anatomy, tentatively titled Private Practice.According to the New York Post, the show may get a new title (ya think?), and the network was very happy with the ratings for the Grey's episode that introduced the spin-off, despite the mixed reaction from the show's fans.
Of course, our snideness comes from the fact that we already knew the show was going to be picked up, for many reasons. Heck, even Walsh knew, as she got a "you're in pretty good shape" from ABC Entertainment president Steve McPherson last week on the Ellen show.

Piz should be recast, IMHO. He just didn't work.
What's wrong with Private Practice as a title? Please, not something stupid like L.A. Doctors or Alternative Medicine.

To me Private Practice sounds like a lawyer show.

The spin-off has definite potential, but I think it would have been better for the show if ABC had held off for the mid-season so writers and producers could do a better job of developing the characters and the story. Of course, Grey's wasn't all that terrific in it's first season either. I'm actually looking forward to this series mostly because of Kate Walsh. I also like seeing Amy Brenneman back on the small screen. I think I also read somewhere that Marti Noxon will be the show-runner for the spin-off, so that's also a plus.

The Grey's Anatomy spinoff does look promising and much more entertaining. I'm a bit sick of GA. It's like a nighttime soap. Let's hope the spinoff is a bit better. GA needs some new characters or better yet, get away from the soap lines.

I don't understand how they could base their decision on the ratings for GA that week - it wasn't a stand alone - I tuned in that week to see regular GA, knowing I'd have to sit through scenes of the new stuff.
If they had showed the new show separate and apart from the regular time slot for GA, then I could see them saying it had to do with ratings, but this makes no sense.
I assumed all along it was going to be picked up - I'm sure SR has a pretty secure contract so unless the thing completely sucked (which, for me, it came close) I thought it was a done deal since before the thing even aired.

I think its a good move to change the title. Hopefully, they will work on some interesting plots. When GA first started I got sick of Meredith's whining quick, but the plots are what kept me coming back for more. Now, GA is in deep with all of the relationship drama while the cases and the hospital come second. I am willing to give the writers a chance to start anew with the spin-off hopefully they learn from their mistakes with GA.

I think the writer(s) have dropped the ball on Grey's. I hardly think there's enough talent to carry 2 shows! I've almost lost interest in Grey's, who needs another sleazy, bed hopping, hospital staff? The interns need to experience life along with learning their trade, but there's too much trading to suit me.

Grey's Anatomy has turned out to be way too much drama for me. At first it was quite entertaining, however it has gotten almost psychotic lately with the amount of the drama. Still though, it has a way of pulling you back in again and again and again!

OH MY GOD!! I CAN'T BELIEVE IT!!
This show had such a slim chance at being picked-up. I just can't believe that ABC took a risk on such a ground-breaking drama. Kate's co-workers on Grey's must be THRILLED for her!!
I just can't wait to see which one Addison fucks first.
Maybe Burke will come and visit her LA, admit marrying Christina was a mistake, and finally come out of the closet.

I'm kind of bummed that Private Practice got picked up. This almost invites GA to decline even more rapidly due to the taxed resources. Plus, that PP cast looks really irritating.

Ahhh, L.A. Doctors... now, that was one fine medical show.
Anyway, except for Kate Walsh, here's to hoping they recast every single character. I'm not even joking.

I agree that Grey's has lost a lot of its steam. Where did the jokes and the happy feelings go?? Derek and Meredith are as tiring as Ross and Rachel got and I find that most of the time I'm jsut not caring anymore. The writers are goina have to resolve some of the drama fast in ways that will please the fan base and bring back more of the light-heartedness of the show. Though with a new Grey coming as an intern I doubt thats going to happen.

Saw Kate Walsh and Private Practice co star Tim Daly. Enjoyed that show. They certainly have the chemistry.
Looking forward to their new season.
The cast looks good.
No more titles like Mc Dreamy, Mc Steamy, etc. Let's have respect for characters and use their NAMES.
Kate seems to be leading in a good direction.
Grey's writers got ridiculous. Hopefully the lead actors will have redeeming roles. They can make mistakes, but we want to identify with decent people.

I say "Dont Mess With A "Good Thing."
I watched the spin-off and don't care for the new show or the actors on it. It will not last or be as good as Grey's. Hope you have not lost a fan.
